Full job description

Your Role

If you’re looking to do something out of the ordinary with your existing qualifications and gain transferable skills, the Army Reserve has an exciting opportunity for you.

As a part-time Psychologist, you’ll play a crucial role in supporting military staff. You’ll get to apply your existing specialist skills in exciting new environments, adding the experience gained from a military context to your everyday role.

You’ll be responsible for a series of critically important psychology and health functions. You’ll provide services from occupational analysis to post-operational screening and counselling, all within a challenging and stimulating military environment.

Whether you’re counselling fellow soldiers, meeting likeminded experts, or redefining your own comfort zone, you’ll be gaining skills to take back to your current full-time career.

It’s a great opportunity to grow and develop as a Psychologist, make new connections with likeminded people and earn tax-free pay. See how this flexible, part-time role as a Psychologist can work around your current lifestyle.

Just give as little as one night a week, one weekend a month or a few weeks a year – and you’ll get a world of new experiences back.

Boost your Income

The pay you receive in the Army Reserve goes straight into your pocket with no deductions for tax, and it increases as you gain seniority and experience.

On completion of your initial military and employment training, you could earn a package worth at least $283/day tax-free.

Additional amounts are paid for time spent on exercises and deployments.

Life in the Army Reserve

Thousands of men and women enjoy part-time roles with the Army Reserve, operating alongside full-time Army personnel. The only difference is that your commitment is flexible.

Initial training length will vary based on your chosen role, after which you will normally be expected to serve between 20 and 100 days per year. This could involve one night a week, one weekend a month or a few weeks a year.

We do our best to make sure this fits in with your work and family commitments; and deployments are voluntary so if you choose to stay local, there are plenty of ways to make a difference closer to home. And with no minimum period of service, you can leave the Army Reserve whenever you like.

Apply Now

Applicants must hold a minimum of general registration as a Psychologist by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and be currently working as a Psychologist with a civilian employer.

Applicants who are provisionally registered with AHPRA and are working towards registration as a Psychologist will not be considered for Reserve entry.
