I have rights to change my shifts when needed although I do not think I would be able to change a shift on the day of one unless absolutely necessary

As long as there is notice given or there is a valid reason you cannot make it i.e Sick, family problems, transport etc.

You can change a shift as long as you either
a) Find someone in your same pay bracket to fill that shift (e.g a 21 year-old could not fill a 14 year-olds shift due to the wage difference)
b) You find someone in the same pay bracket to swap shifts that knows all required stations (For example If you were trained on Front Counter and Drive Thru if you wanted to swap you'd need to swap with someone who was trained in the same Stations)
