About this opportunity

The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) is seeking to fill multiple roles to support the delivery of the 2026 Victorian State Election, to be held on 28 November 2026.

As a Field Compliance Officer, you will work in a fast-paced, high-volume operational environment, supporting the integrity and transparency of election outcomes. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to one of Victoria's most significant civic events.

In this role, you will be attending voting centres and counting locations to conduct compliance inspections. Metropolitan based staff may be required to travel to regional Victoria, and this may involve overnight stays.
Please note, this is not a VPS position. Successful applicants will be appointed under the Electoral Act 2002, with terms and conditions set by the VEC's Election Staff Remuneration and Allowance Framework.

A day as a Field Compliance Officer

No two days will be the same for our Field Compliance Officers. As part of a mobile team, you will be visiting voting centres and counting locations to monitor compliance with electoral laws, conduct enquiries, gather evidence, and provide guidance to support lawful election activity. As a visible presence in the field, you will be engaging with a wide range of electoral participants, including candidates, campaigners, voters, and election staff, encouraging positive engagement in response to compliance matters. You will use your sound judgement to assess complex situations and help ensure that electoral participants play their part in keeping Victoria's elections fair and transparent.

You will have:
  • Relevant qualifications and/or commensurate experience in public administration, social sciences, law enforcement, regulatory compliance, or auditing.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and manage challenging interactions professionally.
  • Expertise in gathering information, assessing evidence, maintaining accurate records, and preparing clear reports.
  • Capability in applying sound judgement, organisational skills with resilience, and the ability to identify risks, make informed decisions, and manage conflict in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and contributing to a safe, inclusive and productive workplace.
