Position Purpose
This role is to effectively be the ‘eyes and ears’ of the Airport Duty Manager (ADM); with the primary objective of providing the best possible management and coordination of relevant airport operations;

Working in partnership with the ADMs, the role will develop and become an enabler of ongoing improvements in Adelaide and Parafield airport’s day-to-day operational safety, security and efficiency;

The role will proactively supervise and coordinate many Terminal 1 (T1) ‘day of operations’ facilities; endeavouring to obtain the best possible service outcomes for all relevant customers;

Primary areas of interest are day of operations bay planning and the performance monitoring of critical terminal facilities / services (baggage handling, check-in, passenger processing and security screening capacity). Identified issues will either be dealt with by the ACO or escalated to the ADM as appropriate.


Key Accountabilities
  • Proactively monitor and coordinate T1 resources to ensure the highest possible customer service outcomes, with a strong emphasis on airline on-time performance and terminal operational efficiency;
  • Operate various technical and operational systems to provide effective and functional coordination of operations at Adelaide and Parafield Airports;
  • Proactively communicate and coordinate with airlines and support agencies to ensure the best possible operational solutions are achieved when allocating terminal resources; including boarding gates, parking bays and baggage reclaim units (for both on and off schedule operations);
  • Communicate and coordinate with airlines, support agencies and the wider Airport Operations team in an effort to minimise the operational impact to airport operations of airline or airport service disruptions;
  • Record and maintain a detailed log of all system faults, events and incidents as directed by the Terminal Operations Manager (TOM) and ADM;
  • Provide a support role to the ADM during significant incidents and emergencies. This may include Aerodrome Emergency Plan (AEP) activation and personnel callouts in accordance the respective airport’s AEP. In accordance with the relevant AEP, the ACC may also become the focal point for operational communications with relevant stakeholders;
  • Respond to plant, equipment and systems faults and ensure all faults or maintenance requirements are investigated, reported and rectified as appropriate. This includes the activation callouts for out of hours failures of critical systems or facilities;
  • Supervise and control the various operational systems to maintain the integrity of security facilities and services within the various airport environs;
  • Actively monitor and respond to both operational and non-operational radio communications, to ensure that ACOs have the necessary operational situational awareness at all times;
  • Perform the role of relief Chief Fire Warden in the absence of the Airport Duty Manager;
  • Comply with all legislative requirements as well as all company SOPs;
  • Coordinate and facilitate the processing of lost property within T1;
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement and efficiencies of the Customer Service business unit. This may include the investigation, analysis and reporting on the adequacy of operational services or facilities necessary to meet company and user needs;
  • Develop and maintain strong, effective working relationships with peers within airlines and support agencies; in an effort to foster ongoing improvements in the day-to-day coordination of airport operations;
  • Understand, work within and contribute to the development of Company policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as reasonably directed;
  • Embed Customer Service in attitudes and actions;
  • Contribute to a safe, healthy and discrimination free workplace;
  • Comply with the WHS Responsibility Guidelines;
  • Comply with the Environmental Responsibility Procedure;


Qualifications/Skills/Experience
The following skills and experience will be highly regarded:

  • Previous operational airport/airline experience;
  • Experience in a complex and dynamic operational environment with competing priorities, including incident and emergency response;
  • Experience in a coordination and/or monitoring environment;
  • Experience and ability to accurately and professionally report information on incidents, system failures and / or accidents;
  • Knowledge of Airport Safety & Security procedures;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage, influence and negotiate successful outcomes
