Uniting is seeking Casual Support Workers to deliver safe, temporary accommodation and holistic support to adult women, men and young people across the Parramatta area.

About the Role

  • Base Pay: $38.65 per hour (SCHADS Level 3.1) + 25% Casual loading + Penalty rates + Superannuation
  • Sleepover Allowance: $60 per night (if applicable)
  • Work Locations: Adult Women, Adult Men and Youth crisis accommodation services across Parramatta LGA
  • On-call assistance available
  • Flexible shifts: Including sleepovers, active nights, weekends and public holidays
  • Penalty rates paid for shifts outside core hours

Roster
Our service operates 24/7, requiring flexibility to cover various shifts. Below is the roster:

  • Adult Female Accommodation: Monday to Sunday 7:30am to 3:30pm, 3:30pm to 11:30pm plus inactive sleepover until 7:30am or Monday to Sunday 2pm to 10pm plus inactive sleepover until 6am
  • Adult Male Accommodation: Monday to Sunday 7am to 3pm, 3pm to 11pm, 4pm to 11pm with inactive sleepover until 7am; Active awake shift 11pm to 7am
  • Youth Accommodation: Monday to Friday 7:30am to 3:30pm, 3:30pm to 11:30pm, 3:30pm to 11:30pm with inactive sleepover until 7:30am; Active awake shift 11:30pm to 7:30am; Weekends 8am to 4pm

Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS) of Uniting provides crisis supported accommodation with case management for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness focusing on our Men’s, Women’s and Youth programs. Our services provide 24/7 onsite support and assistance with education, employment, referral into counselling services, health services, living skills and parenting programs.


About the Role

The Support Worker reports to the Service Manager and works closely with the Case Manager. This role is responsible for supporting clients in accessing safe, affordable, and stable accommodation. It involves providing holistic support, guidance, and assistance throughout the client's journey from intake through to exit. The Support Worker will also refer clients to appropriate medical services and help them overcome the barriers that have contributed to their homelessness or risk of homelessness.


Key Responsibilities
  • Advocate for client choice and independence through person-centred support.
  • Assist with client intake, assessments, house tour and service introductions.
  • Deliver individual support aligned with client goals and support plans.
  • Support case planning and reviews alongside Case Managers.
  • Provide client transport using the company car and collect donations when required.
  • Support the development and implementation of case plans.
  • Assist with internal and external service referrals.
  • Manage communication and general administrative duties.
  • Maintain accurate records and data in line with compliance requirements.
  • Participate in a rotating roster, including evenings, weekends, and sleepovers.
  • Attend team meetings and supervision sessions.

Qualifications:
  • Certificate IV (completion or working towards) in Community Services, Mental Health, Youth Work, or relevant to the field of work.
  • First Aid Certificate
  • NSW WWCC
  • Driver’s Licence

Experience:
  • Experience within the homelessness support sector, refuge, youth work or similar.
  • Experience working with vulnerable people or relevant to the service.
  • Knowledge of best practices for Specialist Homelessness funded Services.
  • Computer skills for timely and accurate client information.

Desirable Training:
  • Identify and Respond to Risk of Harm training
  • Cultural Awareness training
  • Mental Health First Aid
