Job Description - Bookkeeper

About the Role

We are looking for a Bookkeeper to support our well-established Melbourne-based accounting practice. The Bookkeeper is responsible for delivering accounting and payroll services to a portfolio of clients. This is a fully remote, work-from-home position. This role suits someone with previous accounting experience. We provide technical support and offer the opportunity to gain hands-on BAS Agent experience.

Working Arrangements

• Contract position, $40–$50 per hour (based on experience)
• Approximately 5–15 hours per week, flexible around workload and reporting deadlines
• Fully remote
• Open to applicants located anywhere in Australia, ideally in a state aligned to AEST business hours (e.g. Melbourne VIC or Sydney NSW)

Key Responsibilities

• Complete monthly bank, credit card and loan reconciliations, accurately coding transactions and maintaining supporting records
• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including raising invoices, receipts and payments
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date financial records in Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks in accordance with accounting standards
• Assist with preparing and lodging Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS), and ensure GST is accurately recorded
• Support payroll processing, including superannuation contributions and reporting
• Assist with management reports and information required for year-end and compliance processes
• Liaise with our team to obtain information, resolve discrepancies and follow up outstanding items
• Maintain well-organised digital records and documentation, and identify opportunities to improve bookkeeping processes

Qualifications and Experience

• Proven experience in a bookkeeping role
• Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping, Diploma of Accounting, or an equivalent qualification
• Sound understanding of GST, BAS and Australian bookkeeping requirements
• Experience with cloud-based accounting software such as Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks
• High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
• Ability to manage multiple clients and competing deadlines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Pay: $40.00 – $50.00 per hour

Expected hours: 5.0 – 15.0 per week
