About the role
- Support Aboriginal communities and people impacted by gambling harm through culturally sensitive community engagement, education, peer support, health promotion and connection with appropriate services across South Eastern Sydney
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients, providing direct peer support, education and practical strategies to support their treatment and recovery journey, including through presentations, media and group sessions
- Support clients experiencing disengagement or ambivalence where welcomed, provide aftercare and connect clients with GambleAware partners, community organisations, primary health networks, private practice and other relevant services
- Work collaboratively with Aboriginal communities and organisations, as well as CatholicCare Sydney, SVHS Drug Health Service, multidisciplinary teams and the Peer Workforce, to support culturally appropriate care, prevention, early detection and access to treatment
- Maintain accurate, strengths-based records, support client outcome and experience measures, and participate in professional training and supervision as required
About you
- Identify as of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW)
- Current unrestricted NSW driver’s licence and the ability to travel as required by the position
- Relevant qualification and/or demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal organisations and engaging with Aboriginal communities in health promotion or community-focused roles
- Experience in community engagement and partnership development, with an understanding of the issues experienced by people and communities affected by problem gambling
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, computer literacy, and the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
