Primary objective
Deliver high quality and consistent daily care and support services to clients in accordance with the clients Individualised Support Plan,
Departmental policies, and procedures.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Engage clients in daily tasks to increase their skills, wellbeing and independence as outlined in the clients Individual Support Plans.
2. Deliver quality, consistent 24/7 care and support services to clients to implement and follow the client’s Individualised Care Plan
including upkeep of personal hygiene and personal care, meal preparation, domestic duties and activities, both recreational and
educational.
3. Assess and manage dynamic risk of clients presenting with behaviours of concern in the context of a secure environment.
4. Follow all reasonable directions from supervising staff members and comply with service and client record keeping requirements in a
timely manner.
5. Accompany clients outside the group home setting to attend specialist appointments, appear in court and community visits as required.
6. Facilitate contact between clients and any visitors who may come to the group home to visit them.
7. Engage in appropriate de-escalation responses when an incident that threatens the safety of clients, staff and visitors or damage to
the group home arises.
8. Follow defined service quality standards, Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Previous experience working with people who have high support needs, including people with intellectual disabilities or psychiatric
disabilities and behaviours of concern.
2. Demonstrated positive and contemporary values regarding people with disabilities and their families, carers or guardians, and
sensitivity to the issues that impact on them.
3. Previous experience in the delivering of services in a cross-cultural environment, particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
people and an ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures in a team environment.
4. Well-developed ability to deliver disability services within legislative and policy frameworks including the development and reliable
implementation of individual support plans and protocols, risk management strategies and a strong commitment to outcomes.
5. Sound oral and written communication skills including an ability to write accurate incident reports, emails, and relevant documentation.
6. Willingness to work 12-hour shifts on a 24/7 roster inclusive of active overnight shifts.
7. Hold a current Northern Territory (NT) manual driver’s licence and a prison clearance or the ability to obtain upon commencement if
successful.
Desirable
1. Certificate IV in Disability Services or Certificate IV in Community Services or the ability to undertake a Certificate IV in a prescribed
timeframe.
