Position Description

position.
Position Title Learning Support Assistant (Junior School)
Reporting Manager Head of Learning Enrichment
Role Purpose All teachers have the responsibility to support Danebank’s aspiration and
intent, upholding its core values and Christian foundation.
The Learning Support Assistant is passionate about supporting the learning
needs of the students and is deeply committed to the wellbeing and growth
of each student. In partnership with the Head of Learning Enrichment, the
learning support assistant collaborates with classroom teachers and brings
innovative ideas to promote a culture of continuous improvement. The
learning support assistant has the experience and skills required to perform
basic duties without technical instruction but may require instruction for
more complex tasks.
The Learning Support Assistant will demonstrate independent initiative and
judgement and will assist students with the class teacher or in a small
group session. The learning support assistant is responsible for creating and
maintaining effective learning environments which support the learning
needs of the students. The learning support assistant ensures professional
compliance, supports policy and follows school procedures and systems.
Every learning support assistant is expected to be involved in the student
care, and sometimes the outdoor education and co-curricular programs, as
these are pivotal to the holistic development of each student.
Specific Duties and
Responsibilities
Actively support the Christian ethos of the school, modelling a Christian
example in all activities.
Teaching and Learning
- Assist teachers in classrooms and students with their learning.
- Attend excursions and support the teacher with students.
- Under the supervision of the teacher, supervise students who have
- Attend professional development courses.
- Assist students in Assembly and Chapel if required.
- Assist teachers in the classroom as directed e.g. manage a small
- Assist with administrative duties as required: - photocopying,
mounting, booklet making, laminating, contacting, cutting out or
other duties.
- Under the supervision of the Head of Learning Enrichment, assist in
also testing for programs.
- From time to time assist with junior student hygiene e.g. toilet,
- Produce resources as needed.
- Stocktake end of year – books, compactus.
- Attend meetings as required.
- Playground supervision as required.
- Other tasks may be required from time to time to assist in the
smooth running of the School.
Wellbeing
- Model a Christian example in all activities.
- Establish rapport with students and provide ongoing
encouragement to support students’ emotional and social
wellbeing.
- Maintain professional confidentiality.
- Liaise with teachers and other staff as necessary regarding
- Provide the appropriate duty of care.
Communication and Engagement
- Interpersonal skills appropriate to establishing and maintaining
parents.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/carers.
- Refer parent enquiries to the teacher in a timely manner to ensure
- Attend School events, participate in co-curricular activities and
maintain an active connection with the broader community.
Any other duties as may be required by the Principal.
Key Competencies, Skills
and/ or Experience
- Ability to work with a range of people and build relationships
- Excellent people skills and a strong desire to help and support
- Experience supporting students in the early years of Junior School
- Ability to prioritise tasks, show attention to detail, negotiate and be
- Ability to follow instructions while also displaying initiative
- Ability to adapt to different technology and to seek instruction for
- Ability to learn and implement various literacy, numeracy and
wellbeing programs for the students.
Essential Qualifications Essential: Working with Children Check required.

- Certificate III Educational Support
