Full job description
Future Proof Training Academy | Wangara, Perth WA
Expression of Interest | Flexible Hours | Paid Employment | Professional Development
Love dogs? Passionate about animal behaviour? Want to turn that passion into a rewarding career?
At Future Proof Training Academy (FPTA), we're looking for our next dog trainer in the making!
We're not necessarily looking for someone who already knows everything about dog training. We're looking for someone with enthusiasm, initiative, a strong foundation in animal care and a genuine desire to learn, grow and become an exceptional trainer.
Whether you've recently completed your Certificate III in Animal Care, have practical experience working with dogs, or are looking to take the next step in your career, we'd love to hear from you!
About the Opportunity
This is more than just a job. It's an opportunity to build a career in dog training while learning alongside experienced animal behaviour professionals.
You'll gain practical experience assisting with and eventually delivering puppy classes, adolescent and foundation training, general obedience and other exciting programmes.
As your confidence and competency grow, so will your opportunities to develop, lead and even create your own training classes.
We love fresh ideas! If you've got a creative training concept or an exciting new class you'd love to introduce, we want to hear about it.
What We Offer
- Paid employment with negotiable hours and working arrangements.
- Hands-on mentoring and professional development with experienced animal behaviour professionals.
- Opportunities to undertake a Certificate IV in Animal Behaviour and Training, with potential financial support from FPTA.
- Practical experience assisting with and delivering group training classes.
- Exposure to canine behaviour, enrichment, welfare and training programmes.
- Opportunities to work with puppies, adolescent dogs and adult dogs.
- A structured development pathway towards becoming an independent dog trainer.
- Opportunities to design, develop and introduce your own classes and training ideas.
- A supportive, progressive workplace that values evidence-based practice, innovation and continued learning.
What You'll Be Doing
Depending on your experience and competency, your responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with puppy, foundation and general training classes.
- Progressively learning to plan, organise and deliver training sessions.
- Educating and supporting owners in developing practical training skills.
- Helping design engaging and innovative classes and programmes.
- Supporting individual dog training sessions.
- Learning to recognise canine behaviour, emotional states and welfare needs.
- Maintaining a safe, positive and enjoyable learning environment.
- Participating in ongoing mentoring, training and competency development.
As your skills progress, you'll have opportunities to take greater ownership of classes and develop your own areas of interest.
Who We're Looking For
Ideally, you'll have:
- A Certificate III in Animal Care Services, a related qualification or equivalent practical animal-handling experience.
- A genuine passion for dog training, behaviour and animal welfare.
- Excellent communication skills and an interest in teaching people as well as dogs.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Initiative, creativity and the confidence to bring new ideas to the team.
- Good organisational skills and the motivation to work independently as your competency develops.
- An interest in completing further qualifications and professional development.
- Availability to work some evenings and weekends, with arrangements negotiable.
Previous experience delivering dog training classes is an advantage, but isn't essential.
We value the right attitude, willingness to learn and potential just as much as existing experience.
Your Future With Us
We don't want to simply fill a position. We want to help develop someone who can grow with our academy.
Your career could progress from:
Trainee Dog Trainer → Assistant Trainer → Independent Dog Trainer → Senior Trainer / Programme Developer
There may also be opportunities to specialise further in canine behaviour, training education, enrichment and other areas of interest.
At FPTA, we're always looking for new ways to challenge traditional training approaches and create better learning experiences for dogs and their people.
The possibilities are limited only by your enthusiasm, creativity and willingness to grow!
