Full job description

  • Base salary from $88,670 - $100,815 per annum plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Full-time continuing role
  • Based on-site at Macquarie University, Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde

Every lecture, lab session, research breakthrough and quiet study hour at Macquarie happens somewhere. Our Property Office plans, designs, delivers and maintains the buildings and spaces that make all of it possible. We are looking for a Junior Architect to join the Planning and Design team at the point where ideas become floor plans.

This is a hands-on early-career role for someone who enjoys turning a brief into a workable design solution. You will prepare test fits and CAD documentation, help coordinate decants, relocations and refurbishment projects, and contribute to the design standards that guide how space is used across the University.

You will work alongside experienced planners, designers and project managers who will give you exposure to a genuinely varied portfolio – from small refurbishments to major projects reshaping the campus landscape.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Planning and Design, and working closely with the Planning and Design Officer and Design Coordinator, you will:

  • Assist in the planning, coordination and delivery of decants, relocations and refurbishment projects
  • Help coordinate activities and tasks across multiple projects within the Planning and Design team
  • Work with the Planning and Design Officer and Design Coordinator to produce test fits
  • Prepare CAD drawings, test fits and related documentation for the Planning team
  • Contribute to reporting and data visualisation of space utilisation across the University
  • Assist with developing, implementing and monitoring CAD design standards and procedures that meet client needs
  • Assist Project and Asset Management with drawing and documentation requirements, and provide CAD assistance for the effective functioning of the Archibus system

About Us

The Property Office is responsible for Macquarie University's owned and leased assets, planning, designing, delivering and maintaining the infrastructure that meets our clients' needs. Within the Strategy and Planning group, the Planning and Design team develops solutions for the operational and space needs of faculties and offices, working closely with timetabling, space management, sustainability and commercial contracts colleagues, as well as with Project Management and Client and Facility Services teams.

About You

You are an early-career architect or design professional with solid technical drawing skills and an eye for detail. You enjoy variety, you manage your time well, and you are equally comfortable working on your own tasks or as part of a wider project team.

Selection Criteria

  • Degree in architecture or a similar field of expertise
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare test fits and technical drawings
  • Demonstrated experience using AutoCAD, with proficiency in MS Office Suite and MS Project
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills, with the ability to complete tasks and achieve objectives within firm deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and quality when completing tasks
  • Proven ability to work both self-sufficiently and as part of a team, with well-developed communication skills and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Essential: experience with design and modelling software.
  • Desirable: experience in the higher education sector

Please note: work hours may vary from time to time to accommodate business needs and this role is based onsite.

*Please note: This position is not available for visa sponsorship, and the successful applicant must have valid work rights in Australia.***

How to Apply

To be considered, please apply online with your CV and a cover letter outlining how your experience aligns with the selection criteria (above).
