Full job description
- Contribute to the creation, management and delivery of geospatial data and information to support decisions to conserve, protected and sustainably manage our natural environment
- Work in a motivated and professional team with a wide range of skill sets and backgrounds
- Flexible work options.
Who we are
Environment Information Australia (EIA) has been created to provide access to authoritative sources of high-quality environmental information as set out in the Nature Positive Plan: better for the environment, better for business (Nature Positive Plan) released in December 2022. EIA’s vision is to lead on, and be an enduring source of shared national, trusted and accessible environmental data and information for nature positive outcomes. We are dedicated to unlocking the full value of environmental data. Our goal is to assist regulators, researchers, policymakers, investors and proponents in accessing relevant environmental data precisely when needed, serving its intended purpose effectively. This will enable us to effectively track and report on environmental outcomes.
The Decision Support & Analysis section specialises in advanced spatial analysis, development of national datasets, visualisation and delivery of geospatial platforms and software. Our goal is to help staff use the power of location to make better decisions.
The Ecosystem and Protected Places section focuses on national modelling of vegetation and environmental threats, using a variety of tools including machine learning and remote sensing. Our vision is to improve and develop national environmental datasets to support nature-positive outcomes, ensuring a sustainable and vibrant Australia.
The Geospatial Data Management, Species and Threatened Communities section are responsible for management and delivery of national environment data in the enterprise geodatabase and the creation and maintenance of threatened species distribution models and mapping the distribution of threatened ecological communities.

The job
We are looking for Geospatial Developers, Spatial Analysts, Spatial Data Managers and Spatial Ecologists to join multi-disciplinary teams.
Duties may include, but not limited to:
- Providing support and technical expertise across:

- assist in the management of geospatial infrastructure, including data processing (i.e. ETL) to deliver authoritative environmental information to a range of internal and external users
- assistance in the development of applications and tools that support decision making and reporting, with a focus on stakeholder engagement to understand key user needs.
- Providing expertise to the team in the management of geospatial data, including metadata management, and publishing and sharing data appropriately.
- Leveraging geospatial capabilities to design and implement solutions, including the production of mapping products to standards, to support policy development, decision making and reporting.
- Investigating innovative technical approaches to improve the production of environmental data and tools
- Proactively maintaining positive working relationships with data providers and stakeholders.
As a part of Environment Information Australia’s aim to improve access to environment information, our work provides the opportunity to contribute to strengthening the availability of data to provide a robust evidence-base for decision-making.
