Location: Australia– this is a fully-remote position
Reports to: Business Unit lead / Head of Sagana Consulting and Co-Founder

Sagana Consulting:
Sagana Consulting advises investors, development organisations, foundations, corporations, and other allocators of capital on maximising the transformational effect of their resources. We draw on our expertise as business consultants and investors, combined with our deep understanding of local markets, to co-create investment strategies and financial vehicles that empower our clients to deepen their positive impact. Our clients include organisations such as the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, BII, DFAT, responsAbility, the Gates Foundation, and the Cartier Women’s Initiative.

Opportunity:
We are hiring a Director-level professional with an unwavering enthusiasm for impact to establish and strengthen Sagana’s presence in Australia. The successful candidate will act as a credible senior representative for clients, partners, and prospective clients across Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region, while helping to grow our impact investing consulting practice.
The role will sit primarily within Sagana Consulting, with opportunities to support investment-related work and collaborate with Sagana Capital. The precise scope will be shaped by the successful candidate’s experience and expertise. Senior Director level may be considered for an exceptional candidate.

Responsibilities:
  • Establish and strengthen Sagana’s presence in Australia, acting as a senior representative for clients, partners, and prospective clients.
  • Build, nurture, and expand relationships with priority clients and partners across Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
  • Identify, develop, and convert new business opportunities, including leading proposals, pitching new projects, and closing contracts with both existing and new clients.
  • Develop relationships with Australian government agencies, development institutions, foundations, investors, corporations, and other impact-focused organisations, including institutions such as DFAT.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for Australian clients and partners, helping to overcome time-zone and geographic barriers.
  • Proactively lead and oversee consulting engagements across Sagana’s topic areas, providing senior client leadership and ensuring that clients have confidence their work is in capable hands.
  • Work closely with teams across Asia, Europe, and other regions to scope, mobilise, and successfully deliver client engagements.
  • Ensure high-quality, on-time delivery across multiple projects by directing workplans, timelines, budgets, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Manage and develop consultants and project teams to deliver consistently high-quality work.
  • Draw on Sagana’s wider global team for technical expertise and project-delivery support, while maintaining clear senior accountability for client outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Sagana Capital on relevant investment-related opportunities, depending on experience and expertise.
  • Contribute to Sagana’s Australian and Pacific regional strategy, market positioning, and business-development pipeline.
  • Represent Sagana at relevant industry events, meetings, and professional networks.

Skills and Experience:
  • Significant relevant experience in consulting, advisory services, impact investing, investment management, or a closely related professional-services environment. Experience within a well-established consulting firm is strongly preferred.
  • A strong understanding of investments, with experience in impact investing, sustainable finance, development finance, innovative finance, or related fields highly valued.
  • Demonstrated ability to combine commercial and business-development skills with credible consulting or advisory expertise.
  • A proven track record of building senior relationships, developing opportunities, leading proposals, and closing sales or contracts.
  • Experience leading complex projects with multiple stakeholders, including responsibility for workplans, timelines, budgets, and delivery quality.
  • Experience managing and developing consultants or multidisciplinary teams to deliver to a high standard.
  • Strong commercial judgement, structured thinking, problem-solving skills, and executive-level communication capabilities.
  • The ability to communicate complex investment and impact topics clearly and credibly to senior stakeholders.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse client and colleague teams. You are a global citizen who thrives working remotely and across time zones.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset. You get things done, balance attention to detail with strategic thinking, and are willing to dive into the work when necessary.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, with strong presentation and facilitation skills. Knowledge of other languages is an advantage.

Desirable Experience:
  • Existing relationships with Australian government agencies, development organisations, institutional investors, foundations, corporate partners, or other relevant clients.
  • Experience working on Australian government -funded programs or projects across Australia, Asia, or the Pacific.
  • Experience spanning both investment and advisory services, particularly within organisations that combine these capabilities.
  • A track record of bringing established client relationships or accounts into a new organisation or market.
  • Familiarity with climate, impact, sustainability, development finance, or innovative finance.
  • Experience building a new market presence, regional practice, or business-development pipeline.
