About the Opportunity
As part of the Infrastructure Program, the Graduate Civil Engineer will contribute to projects that help shape how people move through, connect with and experience the City of Adelaide. You’ll gain practical experience across the planning, design and delivery of civil infrastructure projects, working alongside experienced engineers and project teams.

From roads, footpaths and drainage to water sensitive urban design and transport infrastructure, you’ll be exposed to a diverse range of projects and challenges. You’ll also build experience working with consultants, contractors and a broad range of stakeholders, giving you an understanding of the project lifecycle from concept through to delivery.

This is an opportunity to turn your university knowledge into real-world experience, develop your technical and project skills and start building a career in an environment where your work can have a visible impact on the city around you.

Working Rights – Eligibility
We welcome applications from candidates with valid Australian work rights, including those holding a visa with sufficient and appropriate work rights for the position. Australian citizenship is not required; however, visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Graduated within approximately the last two years or are expecting to graduate within approximately the next 6 months in Civil Engineering.
  • Eligible to join Engineers Australia as a Graduate Engineer (GradIEAust) upon completion of tertiary qualification.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practice of civil engineering, and emerging trends, principles and operations with an understanding of civil engineering operations and function.
  • Knowledge of Australian standards, codes of practice, authority regulations and accepted industry best practice for the design and installation of engineering services associated with Civil Engineering projects and Local Government public realm projects.
  • Skills and knowledge in conducting research to inform best practice and evidence-based approaches.
  • Ability to provide welcoming, responsive and respectful customer service to colleagues and community members, with a commitment to continuous learning, professional development and applying feedback.
  • Ability to take ownership and accountability for deliverables.
  • Skilled in communication and being able to present effectively both orally and written.
  • Strong organisational skills, the ability to successfully manage competing priorities, maintain attention to detail and meet deadlines.

  • Mentorship: You'll be partnered with a City of Adelaide leader who will provide guidance and support throughout your first year.
  • Development: Approximately 40 hours of professional development over the graduate program, including participation in the City Leaders program and a collaborative group project with other graduates.
  • Regular check-ins: You’ll have regular 1:1 conversation with your leader to ensure ongoing support, goal setting, wellbeing checks and guidance.
  • Hone your skills: Opportunities to develop a broad range of transferable skills relevant to various government roles federal, state and local.
  • Networking opportunities: within the City Council and the broader government sector.
