About National Trust Queensland & the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary
Voted one of the Gold Coast’s most popular tourist destinations, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (CWS) is the crown jewel of the National Trust of Australia (Queensland) [NTAQ] properties. As one of Queensland’s earliest nature-based tourist destinations, the Sanctuary is a physical embodiment of everything the NTAQ represents: to conserve and advance our natural and cultural heritage for future generations.
As we continue to welcome visitors to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and share our conservation story - we have an opportunity for a passionate, energetic, and experienced Wildlife Officer to support our dedicated Wildlife team and connect with our animals and visitors.
About the Role
Reporting to the Native Mammals Supervisor, we are seeking an enthusiastic and hands-on Wildlife Officer to join our Wildlife team. In this Full-time role, you will be responsible for ensuring high standards of animal welfare through daily husbandry, health monitoring, and enrichment of a diverse collection of Native Mammals. You will be actively involved in food preparation and the delivery of animal diets, as well as maintaining enclosures and exhibits to a high standard. The role also includes record keeping and general maintenance duties within your area of responsibility. As a key member of the team, you will contribute to engaging guest experiences through keeper talks, sharing animal knowledge, and delivering excellent customer service while promoting conservation messages.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have a Certificate III in Wildlife and Exhibited Animal Care. You will have the ability to work independently and provide accurate daily updates and reports as required. Other key skills and qualifications we are looking for include:
- Proven animal handling and husbandry skills, with the ability to work independently
- Experience in the care of Native Mammals (highly desirable)
- Strong customer service skills with a friendly, professional approach
- High level of energy, teamwork, and communication skills
- Physical fitness to walk long distances, stand for extended periods, and carry/support up to 10kg
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Current manual driver’s licence and First Aid qualifications (highly desirable)
- Flexible availability, including weekends and school holidays
- Willingness to complete required training and immunisations
What we can offer
Just as our charter is to protect, conserve, and celebrate the Environmental, Built and Cultural heritage of our State – we also are committed to ensuring our Team Members are protected, taken care of and of course celebrated! We offer current and future team members:
- Free On-Site Parking
- Tertiary Education Partners for access to recognised Qualifications
- Flexible Working Arrangements and Study Leave
- NTAQ Team Member Card offering unlimited entry to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and other SEQ sites and generous retail & food & beverage discounts
- Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Family & Friends Passes
- Access to 470+ fitness facilities through Fitness Passport for you and your family
