About the Opportunity
As part of the City Culture Program, you’ll have the opportunity to help create welcoming, inclusive and accessible experiences for the community across the City of Adelaide’s community centres, libraries and cultural and community spaces.

You’ll play a hands-on role in helping people connect, participate and belong, while building practical experience in community-centre operations, room bookings, community development, program delivery, cultural initiatives and local government. You’ll take a strength-based approach to work alongside residents, community groups, artists, cultural practitioners and volunteers, supporting everything from planning and delivering programs through to research, consultation, data evaluation and promotion.

Whether you’re passionate about community development, arts and culture or lifelong learning, this role will give you the chance to make a difference while building a strong foundation for your career in local government, community development and the cultural sector.

About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Graduated within approximately the last two years or are expecting to graduate within approximately the next 6 months in cultural or community development, social work or a related field.
  • Demonstrated foundational knowledge of arts and cultural development, inclusive community engagement, cultural participation and program delivery, gained through tertiary study, placements, volunteering or employment.
  • Ability to provide welcoming, responsive and respectful customer service to colleagues and community members, with a commitment to continuous learning, professional development and applying feedback.
  • Demonstrated capacity to apply learning, contribute ideas and identify practical improvements while working within agreed responsibilities and supervision.
  • Skilled in communication and being able to present effectively both orally and written.
  • Strong organisational skills, the ability to successfully manage competing priorities, maintain attention to detail and meet deadlines.

Specific to the graduate program, you will also have access to:
  • Mentorship: You'll be partnered with a City of Adelaide leader who will provide guidance and support throughout your first year.
  • Development: Approximately 40 hours of professional development over the graduate program, including participation in the City Leaders program and a collaborative group project with other graduates.
  • Regular check-ins: You’ll have regular 1:1 conversation with your leader to ensure ongoing support, goal setting, wellbeing checks and guidance.
  • Hone your skills: Opportunities to develop a broad range of transferable skills relevant to various government roles federal, state and local.
  • Networking opportunities: within the City Council and the broader government sector.
