Backend Developer jobs

We're looking for a Developer to join our team at Hatchd. If you enjoy solving problems, learning new things, and working on a variety of products, this could be the role for you.

Our work spans government, health, startups, and B2B ecommerce, and no two weeks look the same. Some days, you might be refining a React UI; other times, you'll be figuring out a backend integration or exploring a new technology to solve a tricky problem. We don't expect you to have all the answers — we're more interested in how you think, how you adapt, and how you collaborate.

What You'll Be Doing

• Writing clean, maintainable code across web applications, APIs, and digital platforms.
• Collaborating with designers and product managers to create intuitive, scalable solutions.
• Jumping into different parts of a project — whether that's front-end, backend, or somewhere in between.
• Debugging, optimising, and improving performance across various projects.
• Exploring new tools and approaches — if there's a better way to do something, we want to hear about it.

What We're Looking For

• 3–5 years of professional software development experience.
• Experience with modern front-end frameworks (React, Vue, or similar).
• Familiarity with backend development (Node.js, Python/Django, Go, etc.).
• The ability to work autonomously while knowing when to ask for help.
• A curious mindset — you enjoy learning and experimenting, not just sticking to what you already know.

Nice to haves (but not deal-breakers):

• Experience with complex front-end interactions (WebGL, animations, canvas, etc.).
• Backend-heavy experience with API design, serverless architecture, or cloud infrastructure.
• Familiarity with headless CMS solutions like Sanity.
