Job description:
Experience required.
Helm Bar & Bistro Darling Harbour is looking for experienced BARTENDERS to join our team for a brand new venue developed on the water in Darling Harbour.
The role of a Bartender goes beyond the ability to pour a beer well or create a fancy cocktail.
Bartenders also need to provide customer service of a high enough standard to guarantee growth in trade by word of mouth referral and to maximise customer average spend by selling.
They also need to meet physical requirements such as the ability to work long hours on their feet and many times to work under pressure in a fast-paced and sometimes challenging environment.
Reports to – Managers and General Manager
Responsibilities of a Bartender may include:
· Accepting an active role as a sales person, NOT the passive role of the service provider
- Practicing suggestive selling and upselling at every appropriate opportunity
- Making suggestions and providing ideas for improving product range, display merchandising and other point of sale materials.
- Serving customers
- Pouring drinks such as beer and wine and making cocktails
- Checking ID of patrons to ensure they are legally allowed to purchase alcohol
- Complying with all WHS and food safety protocols
- Restocking the bar with supplies
- Cleaning the bar, glasses and any equipment used
- Taking payments, settling tabs and balancing tills at the end of the night
- Dealing with drunk/disorderly
- Taking food orders.
- Perform all guest contact activities in a cordial, efficient and professional manner
- Makes and serves drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic
- Cleans all parts of the bar that are on show
Bartenders are expected to be guest-oriented and to provide friendly, attentive and quality service to the patrons of the establishment in which they work. Bartenders generally have good people skills the ability to multitask and prioritize. They can work in many different kinds of locations, from bars and nightclubs to hotels and restaurants to private events such as weddings. Wherever they work, bartenders take orders from guests or the wait staff, prepare and serve the drinks. The drinks they serve can include everything from beers and wines to specialty mixed drinks, and can also include non-alcoholic drinks at times as well. Good bartenders should have a working knowledge of common cocktails and mixed drinks, and they should also know any specialty drinks that their establishment serves. In addition, successful bartenders make it a point to learn the faces and names of their regular guests; this increases customer satisfaction and often leads to better tips.
Bartenders are expected to present menus, make recommendations and answer questions patrons may have about the menu. Bartenders will also deliver any food orders to guests seated in the bar area. Additionally Bartenders are responsible for washing and sterilizing glassware and keeping the bar clean as well. They also maintain the glasses and bottles at the bar in an attractive and functional fashion that both is visually pleasing and still supports efficient drink preparation. Bartenders also are required to open or close a bar depending on their shift. Drinking is a late night activity so Bartenders usually work nights into the morning, sometimes as late as 4:00 a.m.
As a Bartender, you’ll be asked to make so many different drinks day in, day out. You’ll whip up cocktails, drinks people have made up on the spot, and you may even have to heat up some chocolate milk for a sleepy five year old. That’s one of the brilliant things about bartending, no two days are ever the same!
A good Bartender will provide service with a smile, make the customer’s drink, take their payment and move on.
An excellent Bartender will go above and beyond the customer’s expectations. They will provide them with an unforgettable experience from start to finish. They will create a drink that will excite the customer’s taste buds whilst effortlessly socialising and entertaining them. A customer will leave an excellent bartender’s bar and feel like they have chatted to a friend, not to the bartender.
