Avina IBIS Graduate Program 2027
Start your Behaviour Support career with a structured pathway into practice.
At Avina, we're a national allied health and behaviour support organisation supporting communities across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia.
Our 400+ clinicians work collaboratively across Positive Behaviour Support, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Physiotherapy, Psychology and Dietetics.
Our values guide how we work every day:
Progressive | Curious | Respectful | Collaborative | Informed | Purposeful
Your Graduate Journey at Avina
If you're looking to begin your career in Positive Behaviour Support through the IBIS pathway, Avina's Graduate Program is designed to help you develop the practical skills, clinical reasoning and confidence required to become a capable Behaviour Support Practitioner.
Our 12-month program begins with a structured 9-week onboarding and gradual caseload ramp-up, rather than expecting you to step immediately into a full practitioner workload.
You'll be supported through:
- A structured 9-week onboarding and gradual caseload ramp-up
- Initial shadowing with experienced practitioners
- Reverse shadowing and supported practice as you begin working independently
- Structured supervision aligned with your development and NDIS requirements
- Support and mentoring from experienced Behaviour Support Practitioners and clinical leaders
- Behaviour Support-specific graduate learning
- Ongoing multidisciplinary learning throughout the year
- Case consultation, documentation review and clinical feedback
- Peer learning and graduate connections
- Communities of Practice and ongoing professional development opportunities
- A clear pathway to build your capability as a Behaviour Support Practitioner
What You'll Learn
Your graduate year will support you to develop the foundational skills required for evidence-informed Positive Behaviour Support, including:
- Understanding behaviour within a person-centred framework
- Functional behaviour assessment
- Behaviour Support Plan development
- Identifying and understanding restrictive practices
- Working with participants, families and support networks
- Stakeholder engagement
- Risk identification, safeguarding and escalation
- Trauma-informed practice
- NDIS documentation and compliance
- Goal setting within the NDIS environment
- Working collaboratively across an MDT
What You'll Be Doing
As your capability develops, you'll progressively work with participants across home, school and community environments.
You'll learn to conduct assessments, develop evidence-informed Behaviour Support Plans, work collaboratively with participants and their support networks, and build the skills required to deliver safe, ethical and person-centred Behaviour Support.
Graduate Opportunities
Our 2027 IBIS Graduate opportunities are currently available across:
- Elizabeth Vale - Northern Adelaide
- Melrose Park - Inner South Adelaide
- Port Pirie - On the East Coast of the Spencer Gulf
What You'll Bring
We're interested in graduates with relevant tertiary qualifications and eligibility to enter Behaviour Support through the IBIS pathway.
You'll also bring:
- A genuine interest in Positive Behaviour Support and disability
- A person-centred and evidence-informed approach
- Curiosity and willingness to learn
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle
- Full Australian working rights
- NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working With Children Check, or willingness to obtain them
Build Your Behaviour Support Career with Avina
You won't be expected to become an experienced practitioner overnight.
Our goal is to give you the foundations, exposure, supervision and practical experience to progressively build your confidence and capability throughout your first year.
If you're ready to start your career in Positive Behaviour Support within a multidisciplinary environment where learning and development are genuinely part of the role, we'd love to hear from you.
