Full job description
About the role:
The Continuous Shift Clinical Assistant role at Pathology Queensland TPCH Core Laboratory works day, evening, and overnight shifts as a member of the laboratory team to provide a 24/7 Central Specimen Reception (CSR) service by participating in general preanalytical duties specifically relating to the CSR and where required relating to Specimen Collection or general laboratory duties.
Pathology Queensland TPCH is the group coordinating laboratory in a group of three laboratories located at The Prince Charles, Caboolture and Redcliffe Hospitals. All laboratories are accredited by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA). It is laboratory service policy to encourage interchange of staff between the Redcliffe, Caboolture and TPCH Laboratories to foster close liaison between the laboratories and professional development of all staff within TPCH Laboratory Group.
Your key responsibilities include:
Perform pre-analytical processes consistently and accurately, by maintaining competency in all areas of Central Specimen Reception including but not limited to specimen processing, data entry, aliquoting and referral of specimens.
Perform collection of appropriate quality blood and non-blood specimens from clients of Pathology Queensland as per documented protocols when required by service delivery.
Ensure correct patient identification, labelling and collection techniques are followed according to documented policies and procedures when required by service delivery.
Utilise software applications applicable to the position.
Participate in relevant ongoing education and assist in staff training.
Liaise with patients, colleagues, health practitioners and clinical staff in a professional manner to ensure the correct collection and processing of specimens and efficient operation of the specimen reception and specimen collection departments.
Contribute to the TPCH Laboratory Group team by working co-operatively and communicating effectively with the team both internal and external to the laboratory, including working at Redcliffe and Caboolture laboratories when required by service delivery.
Role fit:
You will have experience in, or the ability to quickly develop skills in, pre-analytical processes within a complex specimen reception and collection environment, including the accurate handling of specimens in accordance with established policies and procedures. You will be confident using Microsoft Office and laboratory information systems such as AUSLAB, with strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads, use initiative and solve problems with minimal supervision. You will work effectively as part of a team and communicate professionally with clients, clinical staff and colleagues across the TPCH Group Laboratories. A commitment to quality and continuous service improvement, with an understanding of NATA/ISO accreditation and certification requirements, will also be highly valued.
Why work for us:
Career training and development
Generous leave entitlements & including leave loading
Competitive salaries
Employee wellbeing programs
