Chubby Cubby is growing, and as part of our expansion, we’re looking for an experienced and reliable Breakfast Cook / Prep & Dessert team member to join our kitchen.

Chubby Cubby is a Sydney café specialising in high-quality hand-whisked matcha drinks, coffee, desserts and Asian-inspired café food.

This is a hands-on kitchen role focused on preparing our breakfast and lunch offering, grab-and-go food, plated desserts and cakes. We’re looking for someone who works cleanly and efficiently, takes pride in presentation, and can maintain consistency during busy café service.

About the role

Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing breakfast and lunch menu items
• Preparing grab-and-go sandwiches and café food
• Completing daily mise en place and kitchen preparation
• Managing your section efficiently during service
• Preparing and assembling plated desserts
• Portioning, decorating and finishing cakes and desserts
• Preparing creams, sauces, toppings, garnishes and other dessert components
• Following recipes, portion sizes and presentation standards
• Maintaining consistent food quality and presentation
• Receiving, storing and rotating ingredients correctly
• Monitoring stock levels and helping minimise food waste
• Maintaining a clean, organised and food-safe kitchen
• Following food safety and workplace procedures
• Supporting opening and closing kitchen duties
• Working closely with the wider kitchen and front-of-house team

Please note: this is not a baking-production role. Our focus is on food preparation, cooking, dessert assembly, cake finishing and presentation.

What we’re looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

• Previous experience as a Breakfast Cook, Café Cook, Cook or similar commercial kitchen role
• Experience preparing breakfast and lunch items
• Confidence working efficiently during busy service
• Experience with dessert assembly, cake finishing or food presentation
• Good knife skills and general food-preparation ability
• Ability to follow recipes and maintain consistent portions and presentation
• Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
• Good organisation and time-management skills
• Reliability and punctuality
• Good communication and teamwork
• Knowledge of food safety and hygiene requirements
• Availability across weekdays and weekends

Café, breakfast and dessert-preparation experience will be highly regarded.

Pay: $27.08 – $41.96 per hour
