About the Position
The College is seeking to appoint a full-time, 12-month temporary Business Studies Teacher and a part-time, two-term temporary Geography Teacher, both commencing in Term 1, 2027. Candidates with the ability to teach both Economics and Geography will be highly regarded.
The Economics department has a strong tradition in the senior years, offering both Business Studies and Economics within the HSC and IB curriculum. The Department also offers a range of elective courses across Stages 4 and 5, including an innovative, school-developed Business course in Stage 4, and Commerce and Cambridge IGCSE Enterprise in Stage 5. The Department also delivers the Business Services VET framework to Years 11 and 12.
Geography is a vibrant and popular discipline as part of the Geography Department at Newington. The Department delivers high-quality programs in mandatory Geography in Stage 4 and Stage 5, which contribute to elective courses being popular at all levels. Elective Geography is offered as a Global Studies two-year course in Stage 5 and is a popular subject which seeks to explore global issues and put geographical thinking in a transdisciplinary context. In Stage 6 both HSC Geography and IB Geography (at both SL and HL) attract strong cohorts each year. The students have high success with 97% of HSC students achieving at a Band 5 or 6 in the 2025 cohort.
