About the opportunity
NSW Health Pathology are seeking Technical Officers to join the Microbiology team at Lismore Base Hospital
Microbiology is a key department of any Pathology Laboratory and by joining our dynamic team, you will be working in one of the largest regional laboratories in the state, servicing Lismore Base Hospital and the Northern Rivers Community.
Lismore Base Hospital is a regional referral hospital providing a wide range of health services to residents in Northern NSW.
The region of Lismore and the Richmond Valley on the far North Coast of NSW offers something for everyone - from nature lovers to foodies. Lismore is only a short drive to Byron Bay, Lennox Head and Ballina to the east and the funky village of Nimbin to the west. The local area has everything from magnificent national parks, waterfalls and rainforest walks to some of the most beautiful beaches on the east coast of Australia. What you'll be doing
In the position you will be performing microbiological specific diagnostic investigations, technical and scientific tasks using established methods and procedures. The position involves participation in a 7-day rotating roster and on-call roster.

- Minimum qualification of Diploma in Laboratory Technology or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution with subjects relevant to pathology or medical laboratory operations
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of pathology services within a discipline relevant to the department, including use of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Systems
- Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment whilst working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes set to meet client expectations
- Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers and patients as well as clinical laboratory staff
- Display initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles in a pathology laboratory and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environment
- Commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement and to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities
