About the role

Tommys Cafe is seeking a passionate and skilled Barista to join our dynamic hospitality team in East Gosford, NSW. This is a casual position that offers flexibility whilst maintaining the high standards our customers expect. As a Barista, you will be the face of our café, crafting exceptional coffee and beverages while delivering outstanding customer service. This role is central to creating a welcoming atmosphere and ensuring every customer leaves with a memorable experience.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and serve high-quality espresso-based coffee drinks and other beverages with precision and consistency
• Operate and maintain espresso machines and other café equipment to the highest standards
• Take customer orders accurately and process payments using point-of-sale system
• Provide friendly and efficient customer service, remembering regular customers and their preferences
• Maintain a clean and hygienic work environment, including the coffee station and café areas
• Develop and maintain knowledge of coffee origins, brewing methods, and flavour profiles to educate customers
• Work collaboratively with team members during busy periods to ensure smooth operations
• Assist with stock management, including ordering supplies and monitoring inventory levels
• Adhere to food safety and hygiene protocols at all times

What we're looking for

• Previous experience as a Barista or in a café environment is essential
• Strong knowledge of espresso machines and coffee preparation techniques
• Excellent customer service skills with a genuine passion for hospitality
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment whilst maintaining quality
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities
• Attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and hygiene standards
• Flexibility to work casual shifts, including weekends and public holidays
• A friendly demeanour and genuine interest in creating positive customer interactions
• Relevant barista certification or training is desirable
• Basic numeracy skills and familiarity with café point-of-sale systems are advantageous
