ABOUT US
The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities. We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better. It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.
Why this role matters
The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia’s largest providers of homelessness services across the country. Our philosophy is that every person should be afforded dignity and respect and that no one should be without a safe, affordable, and secure home. We provide services and supports to adults and families through accommodation, case management, assertive outreach, financial assistance, community connection and referral services.
About the role
As a Case Manager – Housing Pathways Program (Courts), this is your opportunity to support court‑referred participants to address the issues contributing to their risk of homelessness. You will play a vital role in reducing ongoing homelessness and re‑offending by providing targeted, trauma‑informed support aligned with the National Homelessness Stream Model of Care.
Reporting to the Team Leader, Housing Pathways Program (Courts) – Program One & Innovation, this is a fixed-term full-time position, contracted for 12 months, based on site in Coburg North, VIC.
Conditions
Compensation is in accordance with the SCHADS Award – Level 5.
How you will make an impact
- Assess immediate and long‑term housing needs for clients exiting court or bail environments.
- Connect clients with appropriate housing options including crisis accommodation, transitional housing, rooming houses and social housing.
- Advocate for clients to access support services, community resources and financial assistance allocated to the program.
- Develop and monitor individual case plans using a trauma‑informed, client‑led approach.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Court Services Victoria, THM providers, real estate agents and community agencies to ensure flexible, accessible and culturally sensitive service delivery.
What you will bring
- A tertiary qualification in Social Work or a related community services field (degree preferred; significant experience considered).
- Demonstrated experience supporting individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
- Strong understanding of homelessness models, legislation, sector context, and best‑practice approaches.
- Knowledge of the justice system and experience working within correctional or court‑related environments (highly desirable).
- Experience working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, networks and community agencies.
- A current Driver’s Licence
- A current Victorian Working with Children Check (Employee).
What we offer
Eligible employees can access a meaningful and supportive employment experience, including:
- Salary packaging up to $15,900 tax‑free + $2,650 meal entertainment benefit.
- Generous Paid Parental Leave for primary (12 weeks) & secondary carers.
- Purchased Leave Scheme (up to 8 weeks) and 5 days paid leave per year to experience working in other TSA programs.
- Access to EAP, health & wellness initiatives including Fitness Passport.
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander supports including the Burra Burra Network, Cultural Events, Sorry Business and Ceremonial Leave (up to 10 days).
- Ongoing training and development to enhance your skills and career growth.
- A purpose‑driven career where your work creates positive and sustainable social impact.
How to apply
Are you ready to be a part of our mission to end homelessness? Please submit your resume and a compelling cover letter explaining your passion for this work and your relevant experience.
Together, we can build a safer and more empowered future for families and communities.
Applications will close as soon as a suitable candidate is secured.
