Full job description

Run a High-Performing Catering Kitchen. Help Build Our Events Arm From the Ground Up.

Sydney CBD | Full-time | Weekdays | $80,000 to $90,000 + super

Here's the honest pitch. Most of what's in this ad you could get at a big hotel group or a brand-name caterer: a genuine Sous Chef title, commercial ownership, weekday hours, premium clients. What they can't give you is a seat at the table while an events arm gets built.

Feedwell is one of Sydney's fastest-growing corporate caterers, trusted by high-performing teams at Google, Amazon, TikTok, Louis Vuitton, and hundreds of other premium clients. Our daily catering engine is serious and proven. Now we're building the next thing: a premium events offer. We want a Sous Chef who is in on it early.

You'll work alongside our Head of Operations and our Head of Menu Development, and learn directly from the operators who drove that growth as they turn their minds to building the best events catering in the market. You won't be a passenger on someone else's finished machine. You'll help establish it, grow it, and leave your fingerprints all over it.

To be straight with you, this is not events only. From early on you run the daily catering engine and help build events at the same time. The stronger you run the daily kitchen, the faster the events scope opens up and the more of it becomes yours to own. The two grow together, and the pace is largely in your hands.

This is a commercial step-up role designed for a strong Senior CDP, Junior Sous, or early-career Sous Chef who wants real accountability for a kitchen's performance and team development within a sustainable, weekday-only schedule.

The Three Pillars of Your Role

This is a commercial ownership role. Day to day you run the engine of the kitchen, and you'll own three things that decide whether it wins:

Own the Numbers & Labour Targets: Take command of the daily kitchen rhythm, master our labour allocation systems, and own the metrics that make a kitchen work (labour efficiency, roster performance, and waste control) with clear systems to help you succeed.

Hold and Improve Quality Standards: Oversee prep-to-service execution. Hold standards calmly and consistently without ego, ensuring our food travels, holds, and arrives looking and tasting exceptional.

Develop a Capable Team: Lead from the front, focus on staff cross-training, and actively coach kitchen assistants, hands, and junior cooks to build a highly capable, long-term sustainable kitchen crew.

The Events Build: The Part You Won't Get Anywhere Else

Help test, launch and scale new premium products alongside our Head of Menu Development as the events offer expands.

Help shape how events food gets produced, packed, moved and served. You'll build the systems early rather than inherit them.

Take a growing role in scaling the kitchen crew for events: selection trials, onboarding and coaching, using our internal recruitment support.

Learn how a fast-growth catering business actually runs, from the people building it.

Where this leads: the person who helps build the events arm is best placed to lead it. We're growing fast and we back the people who build with us. And there's scope for your package to grow as the events arm does.

This Role is Specifically For:

An ambitious Senior CDP or Junior Sous Chef looking for a real leadership runway and a genuine management title.

A builder: someone who wants to help establish something, grow it, and be able to point at it in two years and say, I helped build that.

A natural "producer-improver" who gets genuine satisfaction from making a workflow more consistent, reducing friction, and building a highly functional team.

This Role is NOT For:

Coasters: If you are seeking a weekday job simply to do the bare minimum and check out, do not apply. We support our team's lives outside of work, but we hold high standards of drive on shift.

Purely Creative-Focused Chefs: If your main focus is writing new menus every week, and you find operational systems, labour tracking, or cost controls frustrating, this is not the right fit.

Events-Only Romantics: If you want the events glamour without running the daily catering engine that funds it, this won't fit. The daily kitchen comes first.

How to Apply:

Once you apply, we'll send you a short online questionnaire by email and text. It only takes a few minutes - but it's essential to be considered.
