Education Support Officer
Location: Lawnton, QLD
Employment Type: Part-Time (30.5 hours per week)
Classification: Education Schools General Staff Award – Level 3
Help young people rediscover confidence in learning.
The Salvation Army is seeking a compassionate and motivated Education Support Officer (ESO) to join our collaborative school community in Lawnton. This rewarding role supports students to engage in learning, build confidence, and achieve their personal best in a safe, inclusive, and trauma-informed environment.
Working alongside teachers and the wider school team, you'll provide individualised support to students in classroom, small group, and one-to-one settings, helping them overcome barriers to learning and succeed both academically and personally.
What you'll be doing
As an Education Support Officer, you will:
- Support student learning in classroom, small group and one-to-one settings under the direction of the classroom teacher.
- Assist students in Years 10–12 to engage positively with their learning (depending on school needs).
- Encourage a growth mindset and foster student confidence, resilience and independence.
- Support students' social and emotional wellbeing through positive behaviour strategies and relationship-based practice.
- Assist with the development and implementation of positive behaviour support plans.
- Maintain accurate student records in line with The Salvation Army policies and legislative requirements.
- Support Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) processes.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and the wider school team to improve student outcomes.
- Participate in supervision, training and ongoing professional development.
- Undertake additional duties as required by the school leadership team.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A Certificate III or Certificate IV in Education Support, or another relevant qualification.
- Experience supporting young people who have become disengaged from mainstream education.
- The ability to motivate and re-engage students in education, training and future pathways.
- A sound understanding of trauma-informed practice and the impact of trauma on young people.
- Experience working with secondary school students in a supportive educational environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team.
- Experience supporting vulnerable young people and their families.
- Excellent communication, organisation and record-keeping skills.
