We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Chef to join our South Yarra team on a full-time basis.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Head Chef, you will play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the kitchen. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high culinary standards while leading the kitchen team, ensuring efficient service, controlling food costs, and delivering exceptional steak-focused dining experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and oversee the cooking and presentation of menu items to the highest standard.
  • Demonstrate advanced grill and steak-cooking techniques, ensuring consistency in quality and presentation.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train kitchen staff to maintain operational excellence.
  • Coordinate kitchen operations during busy service periods and ensure efficient workflow.
  • Monitor food quality at all stages of preparation, cooking, and service.
  • Manage stock levels, ordering, inventory control, and supplier relationships.
  • Implement and maintain food cost controls and strategies to minimize waste.
  • Monitor portion control and kitchen productivity to achieve budget targets.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant kitchen environment in accordance with food safety regulations.
  • Assist with menu development, seasonal menu updates, and recipe standardization.
  • Collaborate with management to support business objectives and enhance guest satisfaction.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Relevant qualification at AQF Diploma level or higher in Commercial Cookery, Culinary Arts, or a related field, or at least three years of full-time equivalent experience as a Chef in a high-volume, quality-focused restaurant environment.
  • Demonstrated experience cooking premium steaks and operating commercial grills.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience supervising and developing kitchen teams.
  • Proven ability to manage food costs, stock control, and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Sound understanding of kitchen operations, rostering, and service management.
  • Excellent knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and HACCP procedures.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Relevant culinary qualifications preferred.
