About the role

D&Y Hospitality Management Pty Ltd are seeking an experienced Chef to join our culinary team in Hobart, TAS. This is a full-time position that offers an exciting opportunity to showcase your culinary expertise and passion for food in a dynamic hospitality environment. As Chef, you will be instrumental in creating exceptional dining experiences, leading kitchen operations, and maintaining the highest standards of food quality, safety and presentation. This role is central to our commitment to delivering outstanding hospitality and memorable meals to our guests.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and cook a variety of Asian fusion dishes to the highest standard, ensuring consistency in quality, taste and presentation
  • Oversee kitchen operations and maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment in compliance with food hygiene regulations
  • Manage food inventory, monitor stock levels and liaise with suppliers to ensure quality ingredients are available
  • Train, supervise and mentor kitchen staff, fostering a positive team environment and maintaining professional standards
  • Develop new menus and specials that showcase culinary Asian fusion and Chinese influence creativity whilst considering seasonal availability and cost efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including proper food handling, storage and preparation techniques
  • Collaborate with management and front-of-house staff to understand guest requirements and deliver exceptional service
  • Monitor portion sizes and food costs to maintain profitability without compromising quality

What we're looking for

  • Proven experience working as a Chef in a professional kitchen environment, ideally within hospitality settings
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods and culinary principles across multiple Asian Infusion cuisines with Chinese influences.
  • Comprehensive understanding of food safety, hygiene standards and dietary requirements
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to work efficiently during peak service times
  • Leadership qualities and experience managing and motivating kitchen teams
  • Creativity and passion for developing new dishes and menus
  • Relevant qualifications or certifications in culinary arts or hospitality (preferred)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments
  • Attention to detail and commitment to consistently delivering high-quality food
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required
