Payroll Officer - can be based in Noble Park, VIC/Silverwater, NSW

(4 days per week - 6 hours per day OR 5 days per week - 5 hours per day)

The Payroll Officer is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll functions within Nationwide Group. This role ensures compliance with relevant legislation and company policies, while maintaining strong internal controls. As part of the Finance team, the Payroll Officer will support various payroll activities, including reconciliations, reporting, and employee support.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Process end-to-end payroll accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, awards and company policies.
  • Manage payroll activities including superannuation, payroll tax, PAYG withholding, terminations, adjustments, master file maintenance and employee reimbursements.
  • Process weekly and monthly contractor Recipient Created Tax Invoices (RCTIs) accurately and within required timeframes.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and support month-end financial reporting activities.
  • Assist with year-end payroll obligations, including STP finalisation, annual payroll tax, reconciliations, audits and insurance reporting.
  • Provide timely, professional support to employees by responding to payroll enquiries, onboarding new team members and managing payroll-related repayments.
  • Maintain payroll data integrity and update payroll reporting, including Power BI dashboards and other internal reports.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve payroll processes, systems, controls and reporting to drive efficiency and accuracy.
  • Work collaboratively with the Finance team and key stakeholders to support business operations and ensure high-quality payroll outcomes.
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive and values-driven workplace while undertaking additional duties to support the operational needs of the business.

About you

We are seeking an organised and detail-oriented individual with a strong background in payroll processing and compliance.

  • Tertiary Degree in Business/Finance (or related field).
  • 1-2 years of experience in a similar payroll role.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and experience with payroll systems such as Chris21 or UKG Pro.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with a focus on customer service.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
