Full job description

Introduction:
If you’re someone who brings patience, warmth, adaptability, and a genuine love for supporting students, Carey Baptist College would love to hear from you.

The Opportunity

We are now welcoming Expressions of Interest for Relief Education Assistants to join our Harrisdale Primary Relief Pool.

Relief EAs play an important role in the daily life of our school, stepping in to support students, teachers, and classrooms in ways that create consistency, care, and connection when it matters most.

This is flexible, casual work suited to individuals who enjoy variety, thrive in team environments, and are passionate about helping students feel supported, included, and capable in their learning journey.

Whether supporting students one-on-one, assisting small groups, helping teachers deliver learning activities, or providing pastoral encouragement throughout the day, Relief EAs help create calm, inclusive, and engaging classrooms where students can flourish.

What Matters Most

At Carey, we believe learning is deeply relational.

Our Education Assistants are often the quiet difference-makers in a student’s day. They build trust, provide encouragement, notice when a student is struggling, and help create learning environments where students feel safe enough to participate, grow, and belong.

This role is about more than supervision or task support. It is about presence, care, flexibility, and the ability to step into different classrooms and bring calm, positivity, and professionalism wherever needed.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking people who:
  • Have a genuine Christian faith and commitment to Carey’s mission and values
  • Bring warmth, patience, and a student-centred approach
  • Have experience supporting students or working in educational environments
  • Communicate confidently and respectfully with staff, students, and families
  • Are adaptable, proactive, and comfortable stepping into different classroom settings
  • Work well as part of a collaborative team
  • Value inclusion, wellbeing, and positive student relationships
  • Embody Carey’s values of Kindness, Courage, Respect, Humility, and Integrity
Experience working with students requiring additional support is highly regarded, though not essential.

What You May Be Doing

  • Supporting teachers in delivering planned classroom activities and learning programs
  • Providing one-on-one or small group support to students
  • Assisting students with organisation, routines, transitions, and classroom participation
  • Supporting student wellbeing, inclusion, and engagement throughout the school day
  • Assisting with classroom preparation, resources, and learning materials
  • Helping maintain safe, calm, and supportive learning environments
  • Building positive professional relationships with students and staff
  • Providing flexible support across different year levels and classrooms as required
Why Carey?

Carey Baptist College is a Christ-centred community committed to whole-person education. Our values of Kindness, Courage, Respect, Humility, and Integrity shape how we teach, work, and care for one another.

At Harrisdale Primary, you’ll join a welcoming and supportive community where relationships matter, every role has purpose, and staff are encouraged to contribute meaningfully to the lives of students each day.

What’s On Offer

  • Flexible casual relief opportunities within Harrisdale Primary
  • Meaningful work supporting students and teachers in a vibrant school community
  • A collaborative and welcoming team environment
  • Opportunities for ongoing engagement throughout the school year
  • A workplace where care, faith, professionalism, and relationships are genuinely valued
