Join our team as an Illegal Dumping Officer
Are you passionate about protecting the environment and making a positive impact in the community? Join Redland City Council's Compliance Services team and play a key role in investigating and preventing illegal dumping across the Redlands Coast.
This hands-on, field-based role offers the opportunity to work independently while contributing to a high-performing team committed to maintaining a clean, safe and sustainable community. You'll combine investigation, enforcement and community education activities to help drive positive environmental outcomes for Redlands Coast residents. Your responsibilities will include:
- Undertake proactive enforcement and surveillance activities to detect, investigate and deter illegal dumping across the Redlands Coast.
- Conducting patrols, inspections and investigations to identify offences and support compliance outcomes.
- Collecting evidence, taking photographs, preparing statements and undertaking enforcement activities.
- Preparing compliance notices, infringement notices, reports and other documentation to support enforcement action.
- Interpreting and applying legislation, including the Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011.
- Delivering community education and awareness initiatives to promote compliance and encourage responsible waste management practices.
- Building positive relationships with residents, community groups and external agencies to achieve positive environmental outcomes.
- Contributing to a collaborative, high-performing team while effectively managing workloads and investigation priorities.
Skills and experience:
- Demonstrated experience undertaking investigations, compliance, enforcement or regulatory activities.
- Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies and procedures.
- Experience preparing accurate reports, correspondence and evidentiary documentation.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement in complex situations.
- Physical capability to undertake field-based work, including prolonged walking and outdoor investigations.
- A resilient, proactive approach and a commitment to contributing to a positive team environment.
- Tertiary qualifications such as a Certificate IV in Government Investigations (or similar), or extensive experience investigating breaches of State legislation and local laws, will be highly regarded.
- Training in Asbestos Awareness, or an equivalent qualification, will be highly regarded.
