As the Principal Investigator, you will:
Conduct investigations of possible offences, and contested penalty notices (fines) under legislation administered by the department, including tasks such as:
o Using specialist technical, scientific and other expert evidence,
o Taking witness statements,
o Conducting formal records of interview,
o Executing search warrants,
o Conducting site inspections,
o Applying forensic accounting skills,
Provide quality, timely briefs of evidence in line with the department's guidelines and requirements.
Lead and manage the performance of a small team of investigators delivering investigative services for the department.
Seek opportunities to improve service delivery with our direct clients, including compliance officers, litigation lawyers and departmental management.
Contribute to the department's ongoing enhancement of intelligence capability through comprehensive capture of investigations information in the case management system.
Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations peoples of Australia.
In addition, Principal Investigators:
Are highly proficient investigators , leading the most complex environmental investigations of high-level offences under legislation administered by DETSI and DWATSIPM across the State.
Are keen to share their skills: providing specialist advice, brief checking and actions to enhance their capability and improve investigative and enforcement outcomes.
Are competent project managers: providing team leadership in case management to promote ongoing improvements in the State Investigation Unit's conduct of operations, including investigation planning and prioritising, timeframe management, travel efficacy, data capture and evidence management.
Are highly effective communicators: contribute to preparation of complex briefing notes, correspondence, submissions, business plans, regulatory notices and discussion papers.
Are capable of supporting the Manager: providing assistance with governance, training, recruitment and selection processes.
Are cultural leaders: contributing to building the Unit's culture of high-level client service.
Are safe work exponents: leading by example the Unit's safe conduct of operations.
Promote a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace that is free from bullying, discrimination and harassment.
This position is available in any of the following locations - Emerald, Gladstone, Mackay, Maryborough, Rockhampton, Ipswich, Toowoomba, Caboolture, Maroochydore, Robina, Cairns Townsville and Brisbane, please indicate your location preference for this role on your application.
