Primary objective
Provide support to Aboriginal Remote Health staff, to deliver core Primary Health Care services, promote continuous quality
improvement, while promoting increased Aboriginal employment at all levels within the Primary and Public Health Service.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Support Aboriginal staff, including Administration staff, Cleaner/Gardner/Driver’s, Aboriginal Community Workers and other
non-clinical Aboriginal staff employed in remote communities through regular onsite visits to achieve identified outcomes.
2. Work within a service culture focused on integration, multi-disciplinary teamwork, continual improvement, and the
empowerment of Aboriginal people and communities.
3. Establish positive partnerships with other Primary Health Care and community service providers and Aboriginal community
representatives to ensure remote staff receive the support they need from all disciplines
4. Coordinate, develop, deliver and review training requirements for non-clinical remote Aboriginal staff.
5. Support the community to have strong input into health service delivery through constructive engagement between the
community and health service.
6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work undertaken in
order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to motivate and guide the careers of Aboriginal staff and ensure that training meet the individual needs
of staff to deliver a comprehensive Primary Health Care service.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of Vocational Education Training, industry standards and tertiary training processes and the ability
to think strategically and develop, implement and evaluate training/workforce plans with key stakeholders.
3. Advanced oral and written communication skills with the ability to consult, advocate and negotiate in a culturally diverse
environment, including with Registered Training Organisations and Aboriginal communities.
4. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders including liaison,
engagement and negotiation skills in remote Aboriginal communities.
5. Understanding of issues relating to Primary Health Care service delivery within an Indigenous remote context.
6. Willingness and ability to travel by light aircraft, reside in remote communities and possess a current manual driving license.
Desirable
1. Qualifications in health discipline, adult education and training or community development or a related field.
2. Broad knowledge of issues and policies relevant to primary health care in remote communities.
