Your role
Make a meaningful impact protecting the rights, safety and wellbeing of older people and adults with disability. As a Community Supports and Investigations Officer, you will respond to reports of abuse, neglect and exploitation of older people and adults with disability, using a person-centred, trauma-informed and rights-based approach. You will work directly with older people, adults with disability, families, carers, services and agencies to understand risk, strengthen safety, and support timely and practical outcomes.
This is a practical, field-facing role, primarily operating in a domestic violence response setting. You will combine sound judgement, empathy and investigative rigour to achieve real world outcomes to uphold the rights of older people and adults with disability experiencing abuse, neglect and exploitation. You will assess safety and wellbeing, gather and analyse information, conduct end-to-end investigations in accordance with legislation, and connect people with supports that reflect their needs, wishes, culture and circumstances.
What you’ll do
As part of the Ageing and Disability Commission, you will work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment focused on upholding the rights of adults with disability and older people in their family, home and community.
You will:
Respond promptly to reports of abuse, neglect and exploitation and take proportionate person-centred action to improve safety, wellbeing and choice for the older person or adult with disability.
Undertake end-to-end investigations, including planning, information gathering, interviewing, analysis, risk assessment and evidence-based decision-making.
Apply relevant legislation, policy and information-sharing requirements to ensure actions are lawful, fair, ethical and professionally conducted.
Prepare clear advice, briefings and recommendations for management following assessment and investigation of complex and sensitive matters.
Manage a varied caseload efficiently, balancing urgency, risk, quality and procedural fairness.
Maintain accurate, timely and objective case records to support assessment, investigation, information sharing and reporting.
Build effective relationships with government, non-government and community stakeholders to strengthen referral pathways, prevention and early intervention.
Contribute to reflective practice, continuous learning and a supportive team culture where contemporary, evidence-informed practice is valued.
What we’re looking for
We are looking for people who bring professional curiosity, sound judgement and a genuine commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of older people and adults with disability. You may have experience in investigations; however, this is not required. Professionals with experience in complex casework, disability, aged care, child protection, domestic and family violence or another human services settings are encouraged to apply.
We value diverse perspectives, lived experience and different professional pathways, and strongly encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, older people, culturally and linguistically diverse people, carers, LGBTIQ+ people and people from regional, rural and remote communities. Your cultural knowledge, community connections, language skills, lived experience or experience working with diverse communities may be highly relevant to this role.
Experience managing complex, sensitive or high-risk matters, including the ability to assess risk, analyse information and make sound recommendations.
Strong communication and engagement skills, including the ability to build trust, ask sensitive questions, conduct interviews and work respectfully with people experiencing distress or crisis or who have communication and decision-making support needs.
Knowledge of, or willingness to develop capability in, trauma-informed, person-centred, culturally responsive and rights-based practice.
Ability to interpret and apply legislation, policy and procedural requirements, and to produce clear written records, reports and recommendations.
Tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated equivalent industry or professional experience in a relevant area.
A valid NSW Drivers Licence and a willingness to travel.
Must be an Australian citizen and eligible to obtain a national baseline security clearance.
