Make a meaningful difference to the lives of Australians in need
Life at Mission Australia
When you join the team at Mission Australia, you become part of a community who are determined to end homelessness and ensure people in need can thrive. United by our Christian purpose and values, we advocate for a fairer Australia, to meet the growing needs of people across the country. Together we’re building hope and possibility for all.
Your Opportunity
As a Support Worker, you’ll be at the heart of helping people secure and sustain safe, stable housing.
This is a permanent part-time role within our Tenancy Support Program, supporting individuals and families at risk of homelessness. The Tenancy Support Program assists individuals and families who are at risk of homelessness or struggling to maintain their tenancy. The program focuses on early intervention, providing practical, tailored support to help clients sustain their housing, strengthen life skills, and connect with services that promote long-term stability.
You’ll work alongside clients and Case Managers to deliver person-centred support that builds confidence, stability, and long-term independence.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
-
Provide practical, person-centred support to participants, including assisting with appointments, transport, and day-to-day needs under supervision.
-
Support participants with intake, registration, and necessary paperwork to ensure smooth access to services.
-
Assist with the implementation of case plans that are sensitive to cultural strengths and individual needs.
-
Conduct participant inductions and provide outreach support as required.
-
Participate in group work and basic life skills coaching to support individuals and families.
-
Contribute to the development and smooth operation of the program through team involvement, projects, and quality improvement activities.
-
Engage with internal and external stakeholders to maintain strong working relationships and promote effective service delivery.
Requirements for success
-
Relevant diploma or certificate in a related field; some experience in a similar role is an advantage but not essential.
-
Current valid WWCC and driver's licence
-
Ability to follow policies and procedures while learning new processes quickly.
-
Basic administrative, written, and verbal communication skills, including familiarity with databases and mobile technology.
-
Strong listening skills and a positive, person-centred approach that believes in participants’ capacity to grow.
-
Professional approach to the role, including maintaining appropriate boundaries.
-
Ability to work collaboratively within a team and contribute to a supportive workplace.
-
A willingness to learn and develop skills while actively supporting participants in achieving their goals.
Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
Your benefits
To ensure our employees feel valued, empowered, and celebrated, we provide a range of employee benefits including:
-
Rewarding work – every day you know you’re making a real difference
-
Not-for-profit salary packaging, reducing your tax
-
Free external, confidential counselling
-
Volunteering opportunities
-
Opportunity to purchase additional annual leave.
-
Extra leave including: Mission Australia Thank You Day & Work Anniversary Day off
