Community Worker (CALD specialist) at Ploomo Summary
  • Role: Community Worker (CALD specialist)
  • Location: Victoria-based, with work in Melbourne community settings
  • Work arrangement: Full-time, flexible / community-based
  • Salary: AUD $79,423 base + super (package approx. AUD 85,696)
This role exists to deliver culturally responsive support that improves social and economic participation for CALD communities. It is a hands-on opportunity for someone who can work confidently in community settings, balancing empathy with structure, documentation and outcomes. It is likely to suit a practitioner with experience in settlement, multicultural community work, outreach, or community development who wants a role that combines direct support, workshops, stakeholder engagement and advocacy.
What you'll do
  • Deliver strengths-based case management and create culturally appropriate support plans for community members.
  • Run workshops and group programs for multicultural communities, with a focus on practical participation and support outcomes.
  • Build and manage relationships with government stakeholders, councils and multicultural agencies.
  • Represent community needs in inter-agency forums and stakeholder meetings.
  • Maintain accurate records, compliance reporting and risk-managed service delivery, confidently.
  • Work independently in community settings while building trust with individuals, families and partner organisations.
Who we're looking for You will likely come from frontline community, settlement, multicultural engagement or related support work, and be comfortable taking ownership in community-based settings.
Must-haves
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with CALD communities in Australia.
  • Hands-on case management and/or ownership of structured community programs.
  • Strong cross-cultural communication, facilitation and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience managing external stakeholders across government, council or community sectors.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Community Services, Community Development or a related field.
  • Ability to work in Victoria and across Melbourne community settings.
  • Valid Victorian Working with Children Check and recent National Police Check.
  • Australian working rights
  • Salary expectations aligned to the advertised range.
Nice-to-haves
  • Experience in settlement, refugee, multicultural family-support or community development contexts.
  • Workshop or group facilitation experience with migrant or refugee-background communities.
  • Experience representing clients or communities in partner meetings, referral networks or inter-agency forums.
  • Backgrounds in multicultural youth or family work, community health outreach, employment support or local government multicultural/community teams, if you have owned delivery rather than only supported it.
What's in it for you
  • A full-time, community-based role with flexibility in how you work across Victoria and Melbourne settings.
  • Broad ownership across case management, workshops, advocacy and stakeholder engagement.
  • The chance to do meaningful frontline work that directly supports participation outcomes for CALD communities.
  • Exposure to cross-sector work with councils, government and multicultural agencies.
  • A role that suits someone who wants to use both relationship-building and practical delivery skills, not just one or the other.
  • Market-aligned salary: $79,423 base + super (package approx. AUD 85,696)
About Ploomo Ploomo is a hiring and people performance system that runs recruitment end to end for growing businesses across Australia and internationally. We exist because we believe the right hire — not just a placed candidate — creates lasting value for organisations and for the people who join them.
That belief runs in both directions. For many people in CALD communities, the path into quality employment in Australia is blocked by practical, cultural and structural barriers that compound on each other. This role is Ploomo's investment in that problem: working directly with community members to reduce those barriers, build individual pathways to employment, and connect people to the broader support ecosystem they need to participate and thrive in the Australian labour market.
The work sits within Ploomo's broader people function — alongside a team that thinks seriously about hiring quality, candidate experience and long-term workforce outcomes. It is hands-on, community-based and genuinely autonomous.
How to apply Ploomo is supporting this process as the exclusive talent partner and is running a structured selection process on behalf of the company.
After applying, you will receive an email from Ploomo with further instructions, including a short online assessment designed to help us understand your thinking style and mindset. It takes around 15–20 minutes to complete. There are no right or wrong answers — the focus is on alignment.

Please keep an eye on your inbox, including your spam or junk folder, and mark emails from @ploomo.io as safe so you do not miss any communication.
