About the opportunity
Join Energy Safe Victoria as an Investigator, where you'll lead complex investigations into energy-related incidents, complaints, and potential breaches of energy safety legislation. You'll gather and analyse evidence, assess compliance, and deliver clear, evidence-based findings that support regulatory and enforcement decisions.
Working closely with internal teams, technical specialists, and external stakeholders, you'll play a key role in protecting the community and improving energy safety outcomes. This is an opportunity to apply your investigative expertise in a collaborative environment that values professionalism, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
What you'll contribute
- Leading investigations into energy safety incidents, complaints, and potential legislative breaches.
- Responding to serious energy incidents, including evidence gathering, scene attendance, and regulatory assessments.
- Analysing complex information and preparing clear, evidence-based reports and recommendations.
- Working closely with technical experts, legal advisers, prosecutors, and external agencies to achieve effective regulatory outcomes.
- Managing investigations in line with Energy Safe's investigation framework, policies, and legislative requirements.
- Providing advice on emerging risks, trends, and systemic issues to support informed decision-making.
- Safeguarding evidential material and ensuring compliance with investigative and information management standards.
- Contributing to a collaborative, high-performing team through knowledge sharing, mentoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participating in Energy Safe's availability roster as required.
To be successful, you'll bring
- A qualification in investigations (Certificate IV in Government Investigations or equivalent).
- Proven experience conducting complex investigations in a regulatory, compliance, enforcement, or similar environment.
- Strong skills in evidence gathering, analysis, interviewing, statement taking, and report writing.
- Experience responding to incidents, managing evidence, and working with external agencies and stakeholders.
- The ability to interpret legislation, apply sound judgement, and deliver practical, evidence-based outcomes.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work both independently and collaboratively.
- A proactive, adaptable, and solutions-focused approach, with a passion for improving safety outcomes for Victorians.
- Experience in energy, electricity, gas, pipelines, or a regulatory environment (desirable).
