Full job description

We are currently seeking experienced and passionate Auslan Interpreters to join our National Relay Service (NRS) Video Relay Service team.

Working remotely from home, you'll play a vital role in supporting the Deaf, hard of hearing, and speech communication difficulty communities by enabling accessible and meaningful communication. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference while enjoying flexibility and the support of a dedicated team.

Key Responsibilities

As an Auslan Interpreter, you will:

  • Deliver exceptional and professional interpreting services to NRS customers.
  • Facilitate clear and effective communication between callers.
  • Respond efficiently and accurately to customer requests.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality when handling personal and sensitive information.
  • Adhere to the Interpreter Code of Ethics and professional standards.
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive customer experience.

  • Level 2 - Provisional Certified Auslan Interpreter $56.85 (plus casual loading if employed in casual capacity)
  • Level 3 - Certified Auslan Interpreter $66.33 (plus casual loading if employed in casual capacity)

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • NAATI accreditation as a Provisional Interpreter or Certified Interpreter.
  • Strong experience interpreting within the Deaf community across a variety of settings.
  • A thorough understanding of, and commitment to, the Interpreter Code of Ethics.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • The ability to work independently and maintain a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
  • Current ASLIA membership (preferred).

Technical Requirements

You will require:

  • A reliable wired NBN internet connection.
  • Minimum internet speed of 50Mbps download and 20bps upload.
  • A suitable work-from-home space (A private space and not a shared space)
  • Minimum mobile requirement Android 11 or later, or iOS 15.0 or later for multi-factor approvals.

Availability Requirements

  • Availability to work a minimum of 15 hours per week.
  • Operating hours are 24/7
  • Working hours preferences will be obtained throughout the process
  • Availability to complete three conscecutive days of paid online training.
