- Make a meaningful difference to the lives of Australians in need
Life at Mission Australia
When you join the team at Mission Australia, you become part of a community who are determined to end homelessness and ensure people in need can thrive. United by our Christian purpose and values, we advocate for a fairer Australia, to meet the growing needs of people across the country. Together we’re building hope and possibility for all.
Your Opportunity
The Integrated Homelessness Supported Accommodation Program (IHSAP), known locally as “Batten Road,” is a large scale collaborative service supporting over 400 people across more than 130 rooms, bringing together specialist homelessness, mental health, alcohol and other drug and family support services in a coordinated, co located model. Mission Australia delivers client engagement and case coordination within this environment, contributing to holistic and person centred support outcomes.
Working closely with case managers and onsite partners, the Support Worker role is focused on delivering practical, day to day support that promotes stability, independence and improved wellbeing for residents. This is an on-site position where daily work is highly visible and involves consistent engagement across the village, supporting clients to navigate services, progress their goals and transition toward longer term housing outcomes within a fast paced and highly mobile environment. Your dedication and compassion will be instrumental in helping these individuals and families navigate the challenges they face and build a brighter future.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day to day support to clients including check ins, intake activities and assisting with the implementation of individual case plans in a person-centred manner.
- Support case managers with active caseloads including referrals, service coordination and follow up on client outcomes.
- Complete administrative tasks including case notes, reporting and ensuring all documentation is accurate and completed within required timeframes.
- Assist clients with practical supports including transport to appointments, Centrelink access and completing housing applications.
- Facilitate referrals to external services such as education, health and community supports and assist with ongoing engagement.
- Contribute to community engagement initiatives including onsite events that connect residents with services and supports.
- Support clients transitioning to long term housing including packing, transport and settling into new accommodation.
Requirements for Success
- Relevant certificate or diploma in community services or a related field, or equivalent experience in a similar industry.
- Minimum two years experience in community services supporting vulnerable populations.
- Demonstrated administrative capability including case management systems, reporting and documentation accuracy.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment while maintaining initiative and self direction.
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and a strong understanding of cultural protocols.
- Capacity to manage competing priorities and respond to complex and trauma related presentations in a fast paced setting.
- Ability to work in a highly mobile onsite environment involving frequent walking and engagement in outdoor conditions.
- Full driver licence with no restrictions.
Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
Your Benefits
To ensure our employees feel valued, empowered, and celebrated, we provide a range of employee benefits including:
- Rewarding work – every day you know you’re making a real difference
- Not-for-profit salary packaging, reducing your tax
- Free external, confidential counselling
- Volunteering opportunities
- Opportunity to purchase additional annual leave
- Extra leave including: Mission Australia Thank You Day & Work Anniversary Day off
