Full job description

Hello India Bunbury is a family-owned Indian restaurant with a busy dine-in, takeaway and catering trade. We are looking for a reliable Cook to work closely with our lead chef in a busy Indian kitchen across curries, tandoor, prep and catering.

Responsibilities:

  • Cook Indian curries and basic dishes under the guidance of the lead chef.
  • Learn and assist with tandoor preparation and service (breads, kebabs, simple tandoori items) under the chef's guidance.
  • Assist with cutting, marinating, bulk prep and packing for takeaway and catering.
  • Portion and plate dishes consistently and follow recipe cards and instructions.
  • Contribute ideas for improving dishes and support the team with new specials when needed.
  • Help with stock rotation, basic stock checks, cleaning and keeping the kitchen clean and organized.
  • Support the chef and team in busy times across all sections.

Requirements:

  • Around 1 year or more experience in a commercial kitchen (Indian experience preferred but not essential if you are keen to learn).
  • Basic knowledge of Indian food or a strong interest in learning curries and tandoor.
  • Able to follow recipes, portion sizes and directions from the chef.
  • Flexible, team-focused attitude – happy to move between curry, tandoor and prep as needed.
  • Comfortable working evenings and weekends on a roster.
  • Reliable, punctual and respectful, with basic understanding of food safety and hygiene.
  • Looking for a long-term role and keen to grow with the business over time.

What we offer:

  • Salary negotiable, with an expected range of 70,000 to 85,000 AUD per year plus super, depending on experience and skills.
  • Staff meals on shift.
  • On-the-job training in Indian cuisine, tandoor work, portions and recipe systems.
