The Transport & Assets Division is responsible for a range of functions which support the whole of Council to deliver high quality services to our Northern Beaches bush land, rural and coastal community.
The Property Commercial and Tourist Assets team are a dynamic area of Council that manage a range of properties including; large tourist destinations, commercial, residential and community properties, cemeteries, outdoor dining permits and watercraft storage. The team are responsible for land acquisition and disposal/sale of land, administration of Council’s statutory property responsibilities including road closures, easements, encroachments and caveats.

Our opportunity:
Council is seeking to establish a pool of casual staff to provide support with general landscape maintenance and ad hoc work associated with funeral bookings and burials. Casual staff may be engaged on a regular basis for one to two days per week, with additional days available during periods of team leave.
The key focus areas of this role include:
Working as part of a small team to undertake grounds and cemetery maintenance at Mona Vale and Manly Cemeteries, including preparing sites for burial services.
Providing compassionate, respectful and professional assistance to families in relation to their cemetery needs, including plot selection, burial arrangements and monument installation.
Maintaining a strong commitment to workplace health and safety by working reliably and responsibly to protect the wellbeing of the public, colleagues and contractors.
Developing the skills and knowledge required to undertake cemetery operations, including learning to safely operate relevant plant and equipment such as a backhoe, and supporting the team across a range of operational tasks.
About you:
We’re looking for a self-motivated labourer, with a ‘customer first’ attitude, to join our Cemetery team. You’ll bring empathy, a healthy motivation to learn, and a strong customer service ethos to a team passionate about making a difference to our community.
Experience in cemetery operations, horticulture and/or landscaping is desirable, but not essential.
Hold a current White Card, or be willing to obtain one.
Hold a current, unrestricted NSW Class C (minimum) Driver’s Licence, or equivalent.
Ability to operate a backhoe, or willingness to undertake training to develop this skill.
Demonstrated understanding of workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements and their application in the workplace.
Ability to undertake the physical requirements of the role.
Basic digital literacy and the ability to confidently use modern smart devices, including smartphones and tablets.
