Senior Product Designer, Payments - Digital Crew - job post
Location
Full job description
Do work that matters
At CommBank, we're on a mission to make digital banking simple and delightful for all our customers. Join our Customer Digital and AI domain as a Senior Product Designer and make a meaningful impact. You'll lead the design efforts to create payment experiences that give customers more seamless ways to move money and stay in control of their financial lives. Our Smart and Social Payments squad sits at the forefront of this mission, deeply understanding customer needs and delivering intelligent, intuitive experiences that fit effortlessly into their day-to-day lives. This role offers the opportunity to create innovative experiences that empower our customers on a large scale.
See yourself in our team
You are someone who thrives working end-to-end — from discovery, research and service design to UX/UI design and delivery — and will join our collaborative, customer-focused product team. You’ll partner closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and Business SMEs in an agile environment to deeply understand customer needs, translate insights into elegant, scalable solutions, and drive outcomes that deliver real customer and business value. You’ll balance strategic thinking with hands-on design execution, and you’ll be a key voice in shaping the product and the broader customer experience.
Key responsibilities
-
Lead discovery work to uncover customer problems, identify opportunities, and inform product strategy through research, workshops, and co-design.
-
Translate insights into concepts, user flows, scrappy prototypes through explorations and ideation to test hypotheses and validate assumptions that bring stakeholders and leadership confidence in recommended solutions
-
Create engaging wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UX/UI designs, that maintain consistency with our design system, ensuring solutions are desirable for customers and feasible for engineering to achieve key business metrics
-
Apply systems thinking and design thinking techniques to shape an offering that must anticipate the needs of customers in a digital/physical service environment, and the staff that serve them.
-
Collaborate closely with a diverse range of stakeholders inc. Product Managers, Engineers, Content designers, Accessibility managers, and Legal/Risk throughout the agile lifecycle
-
Champion customer-centricity and advocate for best-in-class user experience at every stage of the product discovery and development process, ensuring products/services are usable by all customers through accessibility/inclusivity
-
Contribute to product strategy and roadmap discussions by grounding decisions in customer insights, design thinking, user behaviour data and a “test and learn” mindset
-
Facilitate and participate in design critiques, workshops, and agile ceremonies, providing and receiving actionable feedback according to our design standards to continuously improve outcomes.
-
Contribute to evolving our design system for consistency, scalability, and efficiency.
-
Measure and validate impact post-launch, using a mix of qualitative and quantitative insights to iterate and improve solutions.
What You’ll Bring
-
Proven experience designing digital/staff products end-to-end in cross-functional product teams.
-
Proven ability to lead discovery and delivery activities with customers, product, and engineering stakeholders.
-
Deep understanding of human-centred design methodologies and how to apply and execute them pragmatically in a fast-paced agile environment.
-
Excellent interaction and UI design skills, with an eye for detail and craft.
-
Experience designing for complex systems, services, or platforms, not just isolated features.
-
Strong collaboration and communication skills — you’re as comfortable sketching ideas on a whiteboard with engineers as you are presenting strategic concepts to executives.
-
Proficiency with modern design tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe Creative Suite) and a basic understanding of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, components, design tokens).
-
Comfortable navigating ambiguity and complexity, balancing customer needs with business goals.
-
Experience with metrics-driven product development (e.g., running experiments, A/B testing, usage funnels data).
-
A portfolio that showcases end-to-end product design thinking, craft, and measurable impact.
Nice to Have
-
Experience working in Financial Service, or another industry that combines physical and digital services
-
Exposure to design systems management and contribution.
-
Passion for mentoring others and uplifting the broader design craft in the organisation.
Why Join Us
-
You’ll work on products that genuinely impact people’s lives.
-
You’ll be part of a highly collaborative, customer-first culture.
-
You’ll have ownership and autonomy to shape the product as a key member of a cross-functional team.
We invest in your growth and career development through coaching, learning budgets, and design community support.
If you are looking to apply, please include a copy of your resume and link to your portfolio. We look forward to hearing from you!
