The opportunity
We are in the market for an experienced and qualified Development Compliance Officer. You are passionate about your profession and enjoy the rewards of a good challenge. This full-time Level 4/5 position attracts a salary range of $84,445 - $99,503 gross per annum dependent on qualifications and experience.
As a Development Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for:
- Working in a pro-active manner as part of a high-performance team to deliver effective compliance outcomes.
- Undertaking inspections of swimming pool safety barriers on private properties to ensure the City meets legislated obligations specified by the WA Building Regulations.
- Undertaking inspections of properties to ensure that development within the City complies with relevant legislation, policy and operating procedures, including gathering of evidence to support any necessary legal action.
- Issue infringements in respect to non-compliance with planning and building legislation and the City’s Local Laws, such as swimming pool barriers and construction site litter.
- Working with all stakeholders, internal and external, in a constructive, conciliatory manner to effectively deliver good governance, quality outcomes and exemplary customer service.
- Assisting in building awareness, promoting the function of the team and advising other officers across the organisation in respect to the responsibilities and scope of the Development Compliance Team.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
- Commenced studies towards qualifications in a Planning, Building Surveying, Government - Statutory Investigations and Enforcement or equivalent qualification in a relevant field.
- Previous compliance related industry experience preferably involving pool barrier inspections.
- Hold a current unrestricted “C-A” (Automatic) or “C-B” (Manual) class national drivers’ licence.
- A police clearance certificate (less than 3 months old).
- Experience in interpretation, administration and application of local government legislation.
- Knowledge of planning, building surveying and environmental planning processes.
- Experience with legal processes.
- Educational approach to achieving compliance outcomes, enforcement where applicable.
- Experience and knowledge of the development and building industries.
- Excellent conflict resolution skills.
- Well-developed evidence collection skills.
- Effective time management and organisational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal skills.
