About the role
Joining our Supported Independent Living (SIL) team on a permanent part time basis in Highett, you will support people with disability to live their best lives in shared housing or in their own home, providing various supports including personal care and daily living.
The people you will be supporting are highly independent, love a chat, a coffee and regularly accessing the community and so are after a high energy, experienced disability support worker who is passionate about getting involved in active support. The successful candidate will be bilingual in Cantonese and English.
The successful candidate will also have experience working with behaviours of concern and behaviour support plans and must be able to commit to the set roster line below.
You must be able to commit to the set permanent part time roster below which includes sleepover shifts. Roster Split is 52:00/50:30.
Note, this is a set roster in line with the needs of the people being supported and so cannot be altered.
Key responsibilities:
- Follow person-centred support and behaviour plans
- Facilitate client goal achievement through meaningful activities
- Maintain thorough record keeping
- Build positive relationships with clients, families and colleagues
- Advocate for client choice and control
Skills & Experience
- Bilingual Cantonese and English speaker
- Experience with behaviour support plans
- Previous experience in manual handling
- Confidence and experience in providing personal care
- A commitment to supporting and promoting the individual needs, skills, abilities and personal goals of people with disabilities.
- The ability to develop a positive relationship with clients and to support their Individual Personal Plan.
- Cert IV in Disability or similar
- A current Senior First Aid (level 2) Certificate.
- A current unrestricted Driver Licence and willingness to drive a company van.
Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including a National Criminal History Record Check and an International Criminal History Record Check; if you have resided for 12 months or more outside of Australia in the last 10 years.
