Full job description

Caring Approach is a dynamic, vibrant, supportive, and caring organization. We provide tailored in-home support and community care for the elderly, people with both physical and intellectual disabilities, and people needing short-term assistance after being discharged from the hospital.

We are seeking caring and professional individuals to become part of the Caring Approach team to promote independence for people living at home. Caring Approach currently has regular and available shifts across Canberra.

General duties include:

  • Provide personal care and support to individuals in their own homes, including assistance with showering and bathing.
  • Domestic tasks.
  • Food preparation and service
  • Medication administration
  • Assistance with activities of daily living
  • Transport to and from medical appointments and social outings
  • Supporting people with complex needs

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • An understanding of delivering care in a person-centred way.
  • Availability and to be reliable & punctual.
  • The ability to speak another language is highly desirable
  • Certificate 111 or above in disability, aged care, community care, or willingness to obtain within 12 months of employment.
  • Experience working with people who require palliative care
  • The ability to problem solve and keep strictly to the program and routine
  • Ability to engage positively with a variety of personality types
  • Ability to fulfill shift duties and have excellent time management skills
  • Ability to read and interpret service information
  • Have an appropriate visa to work in Australia
  • Current Police check within the last 12 months or willingness to obtain prior to employment
  • Working with Children Check (WCCC)
  • NDISWC (NDIS worker check)
  • Smart phone with the ability to install apps
  • 6 months minimum experience delivering personal care
  • Current first aid/CPR certificate
  • Drivers licence and own fully insured transport
  • Current knowledge of and including NSW Government vaccine requirements for essential workers.
  • Have an empathetic and understanding approach to providing care to people with complex needs including mental health
  • completion of the NDIS new worker module or willingness to complete as part of the organisations induction process.

Desirable:

  • Experience in working with people to increase their independence.
  • Experience in working with non verbal clients.
  • Certification and or experience in Insulin Management.
  • Certification and or experience in medication administration.
  • Certification and or experience in PEG Feeding.
  • Expertise in working with people that require manual handling.
  • ability to implement positive behaviour support strategies and an awareness of person centred active support.
