Casual Disability Support Worker

Flexible Options Limited | Waratah, Newcastle NSW
Casual | Weekday and Weekend Shifts Available

About us

Flexible Options is a not-for-profit NDIS provider based in Waratah, supporting people with disability to build independence, develop skills, participate in their community and achieve their individual goals.

We provide a diverse range of supports and supported employment opportunities across the Newcastle area.

Flexible Options operates two cafés, including Godfather Espresso, where participants are supported to develop practical hospitality and employment skills in a genuine workplace environment.

We also work in conjunction with a not-for-profit aged care organisation to provide a meal delivery program. Support workers assist participants across different aspects of the program, from simple food preparation and packaging tasks alongside the kitchen team, through to heading out into the community to deliver meals to local recipients. It is a varied, social and rewarding program that gives participants the opportunity to build practical skills, confidence and meaningful community connections.

Beyond our employment programs, we provide a broad range of disability supports including:

  • Individualised Living Option (ILO) supports within our houses
  • Community access and social participation
  • One-to-one personal supports
  • Domestic and daily living assistance
  • Individualised community and home-based supports

This variety means our casual support workers have the opportunity to work across different environments, participants and support settings.

About the role

We are looking for experienced, reliable and adaptable casual Disability Support Workers to join our team.

Shifts are available across weekdays and weekends and may include work within our cafés and meal delivery program, ILO houses, community access programs and individual one-to-one supports.

The role would suit someone who enjoys variety and is confident adapting their approach to the individual needs, goals and abilities of the people they support.

About you

You will have:

  • A minimum of 12 months' experience working in disability support or a closely related field
  • A genuine commitment to person-centred, respectful support
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and within a team
  • The ability to support, coach and encourage participants to develop skills, independence and confidence
  • A current driver's licence

You will also require, or be willing to obtain:

  • A current NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Relevant disability or community services qualifications, or a willingness to work towards a Certificate III in Individual Support

Barista, hospitality and basic café food preparation experience would be highly regarded, particularly for applicants interested in working within our supported employment programs, but is not essential.

We are particularly interested in people who enjoy a varied working week. One shift may involve supporting participants in a café environment, another may involve community access or one-to-one support, and another may be within one of our ILO houses.

Remuneration

Starting from $34.44 per hour, with remuneration reflective of relevant experience, qualifications and skills.

Benefits

  • Genuine variety across different support environments
  • Casual flexibility with weekday and weekend shifts available
  • Opportunities to work within both supported employment and traditional disability support settings
  • A supportive and inclusive workplace
  • Meaningful work focused on building participant skills, independence and capacity

Flexible Options is committed to providing an inclusive, respectful and equality-driven working environment for both our employees and the people we support.
