Job Overview

About the job

Citi's Metals & Mining Equity Research team is seeking a talented and motivated professional to join one of the most strategically important and globally relevant research franchises in Australian equities. The Metals & Mining sector sits at the intersection of global commodity cycles, energy transition and macroeconomic trends, making it one of the most dynamic and intellectually stimulating areas of equity research

This role will be offered at either the Associate or Vice President level, depending on the experience and seniority of the successful candidate. The role will include a mix of providing support to the teams lead analyst across the full research workflow – including financial modelling, data analysis and report drafting – as well direct stock coverage responsibilities within the sector.

The successful candidate will be an integral part of a high-performing research team with strong connectivity to Citi's regional and global Metals & Mining research platforms across Asia, EMEA and the Americas. The role involves meaningful engagement with both domestic and international institutional clients, and candidates will be expected to develop and sustain relationships with company management teams, investor relations contacts and key industry participants. Given the breadth and complexity of the coverage universe, there is genuine opportunity for a driven analyst to build deep sector expertise, expand their coverage footprint over time and further develop their career.

Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and publish independent investment research, including comprehensive initiation reports, thematic industry notes, and timely earnings analysis.
  • Build and maintain detailed, asset-by-asset financial models, valuation frameworks, and commodity supply-demand models for the mining sector.
  • Manage relationships with global buy-side clients, delivering investment recommendations and sector insights through regular meetings, calls, and marketing initiatives.
  • Coordinate and facilitate access to corporate management teams, industry experts, site visits, and sector conferences for institutional investors.
  • Oversee, train, and mentor junior analysts and associates, ensuring high quality of output and supporting their professional development.
  • Ensure all research products and client interactions strictly adhere to Citi’s internal policies, global compliance standards, and local regulatory frameworks.
  • Appropriately assessing risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications:

  • 4–8 years of relevant professional experience, with a track record of delivering high-quality analytical work in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.
  • Prior experience in sell-side or buy-side equity research is preferred; candidates with a strong background in the mining or resources industry who are looking to transition into research will also be considered.
  • Strong financial modelling skills are essential — candidates must be comfortable building, maintaining and interrogating detailed financial models, including scenario and sensitivity analysis, to support valuations and investment recommendations.
  • Proficiency in financial statement analysis, valuation methodologies (DCF, NAV, peer comparable) and the ability to interpret and communicate model outputs clearly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate investment views in a clear, persuasive and structured manner to sophisticated domestic and global institutional clients.
  • Experience interacting with institutional investors, company management or other sophisticated stakeholders is advantageous.
  • Intellectually curious, highly motivated and proactive, with a genuine enthusiasm for equity markets and a passion for the Metals & Mining sector.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. An MBA, CFA designation, or relevant graduate degree is highly preferred.
