About Red Cross

Australian Red Cross is part of the world’s largest humanitarian movement. We support and empower people and communities in times of vulnerability. We act for humanity.

About the Role

Working as part of a team of four and reporting to the Senior Manager – Payroll, Remuneration & Benefits, the Payroll Officer is responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and compliant payroll services across the organisation. This role ensures payroll transactions are processed efficiently, including new starters, employment variations, terminations, redundancies, leave, and employee record maintenance.

The position provides support on payroll-related matters to employees, People & Culture, managers and external providers, resolves payroll-related enquiries, and assists with payroll reporting and pay production activities.

Working closely with the Manager, the Payroll Officer also contributes to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance payroll services, ensure compliance with relevant Awards and legislation, and support organisational objectives and best practice.

About You

You are a payroll professional with strong experience in end-to-end payroll processing within a high-volume environment and a sound understanding of payroll legislation, practices, procedures, and Modern Awards. You bring a customer-first mindset, building trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders while consistently delivering accurate, timely, and high-quality service.

You will demonstrate
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with a focus on delivering customer-centric solutions and exceptional service outcomes
  • Ability to take ownership and proactively identify solutions rather than waiting for others to take the lead
  • Effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to achieve the best outcomes and support shared goals
  • Well-developed analytical capability, with proven experience identifying, assessing, and addressing challenges related to policies and practices
  • Ability to manage time, set priorities, plan and organise their own work
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality service to internal and external stakeholders, responding to feedback promptly and constructively
  • Sound understanding of Modern Awards
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Sound skills in Microsoft Office tools, such as Outlook, Word and Excel
