Primary objective
Senior Teachers Inclusive Education work within a Multi-tiered System of Support framework to build capability of educators to support
students to maximise their educational outcomes. The Senior Teacher Inclusive Education engages directly with educators to provide
evidence-based advice and recommendations for students with disability to enable them to access the curriculum and participate in
appropriate educational programs.
Context statement
Student Wellbeing and Inclusion Programs and Services (SWIPS) is part of Inclusion and Engagement Services, which provides
differentiated support services to reform inclusion and improve engagement and access to learning for children, students and communities.
SWIPS provide advice, guidance and support to clients and stakeholders to ensure all children and students are welcomed into an inclusive
learning environment and are able to engage effectively with education and learn to their full potential.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide professional leadership in the delivery of services within and across regional teams, including providing effective contribution
to leaders with operational support and coordination and delivery of request for service allocations. This requires ability to travel to
other regions.
2. Coach and mentor classroom teachers and other professionals within the team to build their capability to deliver inclusive learning
environments and improve education outcomes for students with disability arising from health and/or developmental conditions that
impact their ability to learn.
3. Collaborate with Professional Practice Leaders and work across multidisciplinary teams to inform practice standards, facilitate place-
based decision making and ensure cohesive and place-based service delivery using data from a range of sources.
4. Provide evidence-based advice and differentiated support strategies to assist educators to plan and design inclusive environments for
children, including partnering with non-government entities and across government agencies to ensure wrap around support services
for children and their families.
5. Develop and deliver evidence based professional training sessions provided by SWIPS multidisciplinary teams and in response to
Requests for Service.
6. Maintain high standards of practice documentation and records management and ensure adherence to the legislations, policy
frameworks, guidelines and practice standards and maintain accurate record utilising the department databases.
7. Engage in other duties as identified by the employer which arise out of the priorities identified by the department.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory, with a recognised post graduate qualification relevant to
Special Education or Inclusive Education.
2. Specialist knowledge, experience, and skills to provide advice and guidance to support educators with evidence-based practices and
recommendations to improve educations outcomes for students with disability.
3. Proven ability to provide professional leadership and mentoring in the delivery of inclusive education services and play a key leadership
role in team operations and high-level practice matters including complex cases.
4. Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and plan and proven ability to be flexible and adapt to changing
circumstances and priorities identified by the department.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse
professional, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, which includes ethnic, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
6. Strong facilitation skills and the ability to deliver professional training and information to educators and school leadership teams.
7. Demonstrated experience in and contemporary knowledge of special education, inclusion and intervention programs.
Other information
Corporate conditions apply to this position. The applicant must have a current Working with Children Notice Clearance and hold or be
willing to obtain a current NT driver’s licence. Visits to remote schools may necessitate travel by four-wheel drive vehicle on unsealed
roads or light aircraft and include overnight stays in remote communities of up to four days. Four-wheel drive training will be provided.
