About the role

We are looking for Apprentices to join Rio Tinto’s Operations in Gladstone – Electrical & Instrumentation for Yarwun and Electrical for BSL. You will across a variety of areas and gain exceptional knowledge and skills. These roles are scheduled to commence in 2027.
These roles are a great opportunity for hands on, self-starters who are looking to commence their career in heavy industry. You will be:
-
Learning and developing trade knowledge across plant maintenance, machinery, processes and site systems
-
Working towards completing an apprenticeship in conjunction with a nationally recognised training plan through internal and external training (i.e. TAFE).
-
Working as part of a team to ensure safe, continuous and environmentally responsible operations.
-
Gaining hands-on experience alongside qualified tradespeople, supported by dedicated onsite mentors
What you’ll bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

A genuine desire to learn and develop a broad range of new skills, with a proactive and self-motivated attitude

Strong work ethic with a commitment to health, safety and environmental practices

Ability to work effectively as part of a team, with clear verbal and written communication skills
Applicants must meet the specific site eligibility criteria:

Have the right to work in Australia.
-
Hold a current C class drivers’ licence with a minimum of red ‘P’ plates
-
Successfully completed Year 12 in 2024 or 2025 (or expected to complete in 2026), with a minimum grade of B in General Math or grade C in Math Methods and grade C in English.
-
All apprenticeships require a pass mark in English with ability to read and understand English.

When completing your application, please upload a cover letter, relevant year 12 school reports (interim 2026 reports are fine) and an up to date resume. Applicants who are progressing through to the next stage will be contacted and required to complete aptitude testing.
Assessment centres will be taking place in Gladstone on 26th & 27th August.
